Holy Trinity Church To Celebrate Family Heritage

November 1, 2023

Holy Trinity Church’s 400th Anniversary celebrations are set to conclude with a Celebration of Family Heritage in the Social Hall on Trinity Church Road, in Hamilton Parish, open now until November 11th.

A spokesperson said, “Local residents connected with Hamilton Parish and Holy Trinity Church, among them many who have family graves in the churchyard there, have contributed photos, cuttings and other mementos, now on view in the Hall.

“Opening times for the display are weekdays until November 11th from 10.00 to 12.00 noon and 5.00-7.00 p.m., plus Saturday 4th 10.00-4.00 and Sunday 5th 12.00-7.00 p.m.

“The Celebration of Family Heritage includes photos and stories relating to Hamilton Parish taken from the Holy Trinity Church Scrapbook, the online project undertaken jointly by Holy Trinity Church, the Lyceum and the Bermuda National Museum, which is also launched at this time. This is part of the wider project hosted by the Bermuda National Museum at www.nmb.bm/bermuda-family-scrapbook.”

“It’s fascinating to be party to the living memories of personages like ‘WB’ Furbert and ‘Hackie’ Davis, and learn about local properties among them ‘Cedarwylde’ and ‘Radnor’,” said parish priest Canon John Stow. “I was intrigued to hear about occurrences and achievements in the lives of friends and neighbours and their ancestors.”

The spokesperson said, “Much historical material from Holy Trinity Church’s exhibition ‘Trinity 400′, hosted by the Bermuda Society of Arts at City Hall in April this year, is also on display in the Hall, alongside the exhibits newly contributed by local families.

“Linked with the Celebration of Family Heritage is the annual service of Commemoration All Souls, to be held in Holy Trinity Church at 5.00 p.m. on Sunday 5th November. During the service, miniature lights in memory of departed loved ones will be placed on graves in the churchyard. Lights will be provided for any families who wish to take part at that time.”
