Salvation Army To Start Christmas Campaign

November 22, 2023 | 0 Comments

The Salvation Army will kick off its Annual Christmas Kettle Campaign on November 23rd at City Hall, with the organisation noting that “it’s a tough time for many and often those hardest hit include families with children.”

A spokesperson said, “The Salvation Army celebrates over 127 years of work in Bermuda with the launch of their Annual Christmas Kettle Campaign on the steps of City Hall, Hamilton at 12 noon on Thursday, November 23, 2023 – its largest public fundraiser of the year supporting the people of Bermuda.

“People are struggling. Last year the Salvation Army helped over 32,670 people in Bermuda. The combination of on-going economic uncertainty, inflation and residual impact from the pandemic is being felt acutely on the front line of social services. The Salvation Army is seeing a significant increase of 27% in families who need our help and are concerned this need will continue to increase.”

“It’s a tough time for many and often those hardest hit include families with children. We’re seeing more and more families asking for our assistance for the first time. Based on what we are seeing currently, we anticipate this number will continue to grow,” says Major Cathy Simms, Divisional Commander for Bermuda. “As we have always been, we are here for people who need us.”

The spokesperson said, “The overwhelming need underpins the organization’s annual Kettle Campaign fundraiser. This year’s campaign focuses on providing support to hungry children and families during the Christmas season. Donations to the campaign will support programming that provides food, clothing, gifts for children and other necessities.

“Contributions to the Christmas Kettle Campaign allows The Salvation Army to provide practical assistance for all who need it, not just at Christmas, but throughout the year. This includes meals, food banks, housing support, substance-use recovery, summer camps and care for women and children fleeing domestic violence. Every donation to any of the kettle locations across the island remains in Bermuda, to support local needs. For those who want a safe and simple online payment option to donate, visit www.SalvationArmy.bm. Last year during the Christmas Season, The Salvation Army in Bermuda helped 3,474 local residents with food hampers and toys. But your financial support goes beyond Christmas, it is needed throughout the year to provide practical help to those with everyday needs on the island.

“We invite everyone in town visiting, working, or shopping to come and join us on Thursday, 23 November 2023 at 12 noon, on the steps of City Hall for the Christmas Kettle Launch – featuring local Bermuda Government and City of Hamilton dignitaries, The Towne Crier with a proclamation, the Northlands Primary School Choir, the Salvation Army Bermuda Divisional Band Ensemble, Salvation Army leaders and salvationists.

“Each year, The Salvation Army relies on the support of hundreds of kettle workers who give their time and energy to collect donations at kettle locations across the country.
