Bermuda Is Love Launching #FightForJustice

Bermuda Is Love is launching the #FightForJustice campaign to “advocate for the right to access to justice and legal aid in Bermuda.”

A spokesperson said, “These rights are fundamental to ensuring equality, fairness, and the protection of human rights. They ensure that everyone, regardless of one’s background or socio-economic status, has the opportunity to seek redress when their rights are violated or when they are faced with legal challenges.

“Bermuda Is Love believes that we all deserve to be treated equally, fairly, and with respect. By providing individuals with the means to seek legal assistance and support, we ultimately help reinforce the principle that everyone should be treated equally before the law.

“However, when persons in our society are prevented or denied access to justice or face barriers in asserting their rights, due to costs, discrimination, or a simple lack of information, it undermines the principle of equality before the law and perpetuates socio-economic inequalities within society.

“Access to justice, therefore, is crucial for protecting the rights of marginalised and vulnerable populations as well as those who are economically disadvantaged or belong to minority groups. Access to legal aid further helps to address these disparities by providing free or low-cost legal assistance to those in need.

“Legal aid also ensures that individuals have the means to challenge discriminatory practices, remedy human rights violations, and advocate for social change. When persons have the means to challenge unjust actions by individuals, authorities, and institutions, it ensures that their rights are upheld and also fosters a culture of accountability and prevents an abuse of power.

“Bermuda Is Love believes that access to justice means creating a society where we are all able to access quality legal representation, effectively navigate the legal system, have our voices and grievances heard in a fair, timely, and impartial manner, without facing barriers of cost, discrimination, or lack of information.

“The human right to access to justice and legal aid ensures that we are all empowered to #FightForJustice, assert our human rights, and advocate for ourselves in a dignified manner.
