The owner or operator of every licensed fishing vessel is reminded of the obligation to keep a daily log of catch and effort statistics relating to the operation of that licensed fishing vessel, and to make returns of the catch and effort statistics to the Director of Environment and Natural Resources on the fisheries statistics Form 3 or online at www.fisheries.gov.bm. The deadline for the receipt of catch and effort statistics for all fishing vessels for the year 2023 was on 31 January 2024.
Fishing vessel owners or operators who have not submitted all of their 2023 statistics by 30 April 2024 will have committed an offence against the Fisheries Regulations 2010.
Vessel owners and operators are further advised that the deadline for the receipt of catch and effort statistics for the first quarter of 2024 [i.e. 1 January to 31 March 2024] is 30 April 2024. Statistics should be submitted to the Licensing Office of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources [DENR] located in the Botanical Gardens, Paget; to the DENR Marine Resources Section Office located on Coney Island, St. George’s; or online at www.fisheries.gov.bm.

The Ministry of Home Affairs reminds commercial and recreational fishers that fishing in the Seasonally Protected Areas, also known as the “Hind Grounds” and “Grouper Grounds”, will be prohibited from 15 April through 14 August 2024 in order to protect spawning Red Hinds and Black Groupers. Also note that while the Seasonally Protected Areas open on 15 August 2024, the Extended Closure Areas around important Black Grouper aggregations will remain closed to fishing until December 1, 2024.
