Trott Looks To Retain RenaissanceRe Title
[Written by Stephen Wright]
Sean Trott will look to retain his title in the RenaissanceRe 10 Mile Challenge on Sunday [April 14].
Trott, who won the race in 56min 26sec last year, has claimed victory in all three legs of the Swan’s Running Club Legends Series, winning the Ed Sherlock 8K Run [27:45] in February, the Ray Swan Flat 8K [27:14] in March and the Ludwig Cann 10K [34:56] last weekend.
The RenaissanceRe 5/10 Mile Challenge starts and finishes at the Tucker Property South Gate in the Botanical Gardens.
Christine Dailey won the women’s 10-mile race last year in 1:10:00.
“The RenaissanceRe 10 Mile Challenge will be a good test for me because it’s close to the half-marathon distance, which is my main goal this year [the Bermuda Half Marathon Derby],” Trott told Bernews.
“Hopefully, I can hang with a pace I’d like to do for the May 24 race.”
The 34-year-old leads the Swan’s Running Club Legends Series standings with 75 points, 39 ahead of second place Chayce Smith [36], with one race remaining, the Bermuda Healthcare “Sir” Stanley Burgess 5K in Devonshire on May 5.
“I’m happy with how the series has gone,” Trott added. “I can take some confidence from it as I build towards the Bermuda Half Marathon Derby.
“I’ve ran from the front and pulled away from the pack at times. The Ed Sherlock 8K is the race I’ve been most pleased with. Chayce Smith pushed me hard, but I responded well to some of the moves.
“There’s a significant prize purse attached to the Stanley Burgess 5K; it may attract more runners outside the series, but I’ll still be going for the title.”
