Cruise Ship Diverts Due To Injured Passenger
The Celebrity Apex diverted to Bermuda has a 94-year-old female passenger suffered a broken leg
A BMOC spokesperson said, “RCC Bermuda was advised that the cruise ship Celebrity Apex had diverted to Bermuda on passage from Fort Lauderdale to Ponta Delgada in order to disembark a 94 year old female passenger who has suffered a broken leg.
“The ships estimated time of arrival was given as Saturday at 4:15 in the afternoon, considering the forecast sea state and fact that the patient will be transferred on a stretcher consideration was given to carrying out a transfer to the pilot boat in Murrays Anchorage, another option would be to transfer the patient by ships tender so the patient could embark on the boat deck and be lowered to the water.
“When the ship arrived it was arranged for the patient to disembark by ships tender with a member of the medical department onboard. The tender was escorted to ordnance Island by the pilot / rescue boat St George and the patient transferred to waiting ambulance for onward transport to the hospital.”
