BizCamp Showcases Young Entrepreneurs Ideas

The Youth Entrepreneurship Initiative [YEI] in conjunction with the Bermuda Economic Development Corporation held the second BizCamp of the summer earlier this month. MaxineAmong the twelve business ideas presented were cell phone repair, casual clothing and football kit design, fishing gear, coffee shops, and henna body painting.

“For five days participants learn about opportunity recognition, cost of goods, pricing, marketing and many other aspects of running a company. After learning the concepts, they create and present their own business plan using a PowerPoint template provided by the YEI’s curriculum partner including the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship [www.nfte.com].

“The top presentation was presented by My-AH Outerbridge for her concept of henna body painting focused on bridal parties and other special occasions. Second place was captured by Jaaziah Astwood who plans to become a leader in designing and producing football team kits. And Daeguan Dixon’s cell phone repair business Bermuda Device Doctors took third place.”

The spokesperson said, “Thanks to support from the BEDC and Centennial Foundation BizCamp provides this training free of charge. Since 2002 the YEI had presented certificates to over 1,200 aspiring Bermudian teens 13 to 18 years of age.”
