Car Crashes Into Building On East Broadway
[Updated] Emergency services responded to a collision on East Broadway today [Oct 30] involving a car that crashed into the gas station building. The 83-year-old driver was not harmed, however his wife, 81, was taken to the hospital following the incident and a person in the building was also injured.
Update Oct 31, 4.10pm: A police spokesperson said, “Around 1:20 p.m. on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, police and other first responders, attended a serious single vehicle road traffic collision involving an SUV, at the Rubis service station on East Broadway.
“Upon arrival it was observed that the SUV had crashed into the building.
“The collision resulted in the wall near the cashier’s station being pushed in trapping a female employee inside.
“Bermuda Fire and Rescue personnel used hydraulic rescue equipment to free the employee.
“She was attended to at the scene by EMTs and subsequently transported by ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment to an injured leg.
“A female who was seated in the front passenger seat of the SUV complained of chest pains following the collision.
“She was also attended to by EMT’s and transported by ambulance to hospital for further treatment.
“At last check, both women had been attended to and discharged.
“The male driver of the SUV did not appear to be injured.
“An investigation into this collision is now underway and anyone with information is asked to call the main police number 295-0011 or the non-emergency reporting number 211.”

There was a lot less damage to the SUV than I was expecting. It stood up surprisingly well to a concrete block wall.
It’s a KIA. They can take a crashing and keep on going.
That didn’t always used to be the case. They used to crumple like tin foil. Glad they are made better. Also glad he hit a wall and not a gas pump!
