Junior Pan Ams To Feature 28 Sports
The Junior Pan American Games in Asunción, Paraguay, will feature 28 sports and 43 disciplines.
More than 4,000 athletes from 41 countries are expected to compete in the Games, which will run from August 9 to 23 next year.
There will be four new sports added the programme: field hockey, golf, rugby and waterski /wakeboard.
In addition, two disciplines have been added, BMX freestyle and basketball 5v5.
The inaugural Junior Pan American Games were held in Cali, Colombia, in 2021.
The Asunción Games will feature diving, swimming, artistic swimming, open water, archery, athletics, badminton, handball, basketball 3×3, basketball 5v5, canoe/kayak sprint, BMX racing, BMX freestyle, mountain bike, track cycling, road cycling, fencing, golf, artistic gymnastic, rhythmic gymnastics, trampoline, hockey, judo, karate kumite, rowing, rugby, sailing, shooting, artistic skating, speed skating, skateboarding, squash, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, triathlon, weightlifting, water-skiing/wakeboard, wrestling, volleyball and beach volleyball.
The venues hosting the different competitions are the Olympic Park, the SND, Encarnacion, San Bernadino, Rakiura Resort and the Bahia and Costanera de Asuncion.
The opening ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, August 9 at the La Nueva Olla Stadium in Asunción and the Closing Ceremony for August 23, at a venue to be determined.
Bermudian archer Jaydon Roberts has qualified for the Asuncion Games.
