Lions Cubs Raffle Raises Charity Funds
Youngsters from the Hamilton Lions Cubs helped raise funds for local charities by assisting in a raffle sale at Lindo’s Market in Devonshire and Lindo’s Family Foods in Warwick last weekend.
The Lions Cub, which teaches youngsters the joy of volunteering, joined members of the Hamilton Lions Club in selling the tickets, with the proceeds going to Special Olympics Bermuda, the Dandy Town youth football programme, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bermuda.
They will continue selling raffle tickets each weekend until the annual Gas-o-Rama event at Rubis Terceira’s North Shore gas station on February 8.
The Cubs programme, which is for youngsters aged four to 12, was launched in October 2023.
Lana Woods, the programme leader, said the Cubs organise a service project each month focusing on environment protection, vision care, diabetes charities and caring for the elderly.
“The Cubs not old enough to sell the raffle tickets themselves but were there for support,” Ms Woods told Bernews.
“These kids are really enjoying the Cubs programme. Hopefully, they will move up to the Leo Lions Programme [for 13 to 18-year-olds] before becoming fully-fledged adult Lions.”
