Azman, Zakaria Win IQUW Open Championships
The IQUW Bermuda Open Squash Championships concluded at the Bermuda Squash Racquets Association Club with two compelling final matches.
In the Ladies Final, top-seeded Aira Azman of Malaysia defeated second-seeded Hana Moataz of Egypt in a swift straight-sets victory. Azman secured the title 3-0 in 27 minutes with scores of 12-10, 11-3, and 11-6.
The Men’s Final offered a more protracted contest, lasting 110 minutes between top seed Miguel Rodriguez of Colombia and second seed Mohamad Zakaria of Egypt. Zakaria emerged as the champion after a comeback victory, defeating Rodriguez 3-2.
Zakaria dropped the opening set 8-11 but leveled the match with an 11-7 win in the second. Rodriguez regained the lead by taking the third set 11-6. The fourth game extended to a grueling 40 minutes, with Zakaria eventually winning 15-13 to force a fifth set. Zakaria carried the momentum, claiming the final set 11-4 to secure the championship.
