Field Hockey: Mexico Defeat Bermuda
Bermuda’s women’s field hockey team played their second match of the Central American and Caribbean [CAC] Games qualifying tournament, losing 5-0 to host nation Mexico.
Despite a scoreless first quarter, Mexico took control of the game after halftime. Substitute Melanie Torres scored the opening goal for Mexico. Another substitute, Melanie Cruz, quickly followed with a second goal, giving Mexico a 2-0 lead at the half.
Mexico continued to apply pressure in the third quarter, with Ximena Noria adding a third goal. Substitutes Cristina Ortiz and America Sosa further extended Mexico’s lead to 4-0 and 5-0, respectively.
Bermuda’s starting lineup included Christina Stephens-Weser, Alyssa DeSilva, Georgia Harris, Elizabeth Stewart, Grace Lighttowler, Jessica Hollis, Chrysda Smith, Megan Troake, Abigail Brewer, Jennifer Chisnall, and Amber McHugh. Substitutes were Mackenzie Heaney, Robin Stempel, Heather Sinclair, Elizabeth Davidson, and Zaynab Brown.
Mexico’s starting lineup featured Mariana Agraz, Brenda Moreno, Ximena Noria, America Sosa, Maria Rodriguez, Fernanda Guzman, Gala Plata, Maria Ramirez, Sofia Perez, Dariana Cardiel, and Naomi Cardiel. Substitutes included Cristina Ortiz, Miriam De Los Rios, Dana Jasso, Valeria Espinoza, Melanie Cruz, Nancy Castillo, and Melanie Torres.
