Field Hockey: Jamaica Defeat Bermuda

Bermuda’s men’s national field hockey team faced Jamaica in their fourth match of the Central American and Caribbean [CAC] Games qualifying tournament in Mexico, with Jamaica defeating Bermuda 2-0.

Jamaica’s starting lineup included Christopher Reid, Rar-Jay Singh, Daniel Powell, Tuseef Graham, Nickoy Stephenson, Shawn Aransevia, Phillip Dawson, Farijah Masters, Mark-Andrew Coke, Dwight O’Hara, and Rasheed Johnston. Substitutes were Kevaun Reid, Brandon Clarke, Rashad McCarthy, Ranaldo Golding, and Ajani Burton.

Bermuda’s starting lineup featured Justin Dill, Nathan Bothello, Alexander Godet, Aaron Madeiros, Hemijah Bean, Donovan Simmons, Isaac Davis, Rees Young, Richard Minors, Sven Curley, and Owen Curley. The substitutes for Bermuda were Aizaya Smith, Gareth Tavares, Xyaire Smith, Makie De Souza, Jonah Trott, and Jordache Rawson.

Jamaica took the lead in the 13th minute when Rasheed Johnston scored a field goal. Bermuda sought to equalize, but Jamaica extended their advantage just before halftime with a penalty corner conversion by Phillip Dawson.

The second half saw a closely fought encounter. Bermuda pressed to reduce the deficit, but the Jamaican goalkeeper maintained a strong defense. Bermuda’s goalkeeper, Justin Dill, also made several key saves to prevent Jamaica from increasing their lead.

Despite their efforts in the latter half, Bermuda was unable to score, resulting in a 2-0 victory for Jamaica.
