Authorities Meet Yacht After Allegations Made
A 40ft Polish-registered yacht approaching Bermuda was met by authorities after a call reported the captain had allegedly been violent and threatened a crew member over money.
A Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre spokesperson said, “Sunday 25th May, 2:50 pm – RCC Bermuda received a telephone call from the father of a crew member onboard a 40ft Polish registered yacht with 6 people onboard. The phone call reports the captain of the yacht being violent and hostile towards his son and threatening to throw him off if money is not paid.
“The yacht was identified approaching the Island and broadcasting on AIS, coast guard were dispatched to the west to meet with the inbound yacht and a second Coast Guard boat was positioned at the east end for backup. The yacht made an approach into St George harbour and was directed alongside at market wharf, the yacht was met by Bermuda police and the accusations discussed. One crew member decided to leave the vessel and no charges were pressed by anyone onboard.”
