Drugs Seized, Four U.S. Cruise Visitors Arrested
Four American cruise passengers were arrested after they were “found in possession of a significant amount of illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia, believed destined for Bermuda,” including the drug Carfentanyl, which officials said is “100 times more potent than regular fentanyl.”
A police spokesperson said, “Four U.S. cruise visitors have been arrested after they were detained by the security staff of Carnival Cruise lines in waters just off the coast of Bermuda, after they were found in possession of a significant amount of illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia, believed destined for Bermuda.
“These included:
- Several compressed packages containing cannabis
- One package containing fentanyl
- Vape pens
- A quantity of suspected THC gummies.
“Upon landing in Bermuda, all four suspects were arrested and detained at Hamilton Police Station. A court file is being prepared, and charges are anticipated.
“Acting Detective Superintendent Derricka Burns expressed grave concern about the quantity and type of fentanyl recovered, “Fentanyl, even in extremely small amounts poses a threat to someone’s life. What was seized in this case is a very dangerous drug known as “Carfentanyl”.”
Acting Detective Superintendent Burns warned, “Carfentanyl is extremely potent, in fact it is about 100 times more potent than regular fentanyl, and was originally developed for veterinary use, more specifically to tranquilize large animals such as elephants. This seizure has potentially prevented tragedy from occurring.”
“The Bermuda Police Service continues to work with partner agencies, both local and international to prevent the flow of these dangerous substances into the island. The interdiction of these drugs is evidence of the success of these partnerships.”
A police spokesperson added, “We urge anyone with information on illegal drug or any other criminal activity to get in contact with us by calling the main police number, 295-0011, or 211. You may also share the information with a police officer you’re familiar with or by using the community reporting portal at https://portal.police.bm. If you’d prefer, please call the independent and confidential Crime Stoppers number, 800-8477
“An investigation into this matter is being conducted by officers from the Narcotics Unit. No further information will be provided at this time.”

Time for the police to start carrying Narcan…
Thank goodness. Great job by all services
There is another story of crew being caught with drugs. Is there some confusion or is this separate?
Bigger question: Why were the drugs not discovered at the port of departure? Now, Bermuda is stuck paying millions of dollars for trials, and if convicted, prison for four individuals at Westgate at $100,000+ a year for how many years? Let’s say 5 years each x 4 x $100,000 = $2,000,000 minimum. Add $400,000+ for each additional year.
I keep saying Bermuda needs to pay police at departure points for the services of drug-sniffing dogs. Way cheaper in the long run.
“I keep saying …”
Yes, and it keeps not happening.
I am persistent. At some point, decision-makers will say, ‘Wow!’ I(politician name) have a great idea. It took years, but one politician took my LED bulb program and said I(politician name) have a great idea.
Perhaps that will happen … after the Bermuda Police Service resumes the long-abandoned practice of enforcing traffic laws regularly and consistently.
Ahhh just make it all legal, the so called war on drugs is a big joke!
Where are the pics of the 4 detainees?
