Ilona Perry Launches Luxury Brand ‘Lava & Salt’

Bermudian Ilona Perry has launched ‘Lava & Salt’, a luxury brand celebrating Bermuda’s heritage with fragrances and the limited-edition Hearthkeeper candle.

A spokesperson said, “Bermudian entrepreneur Ilona J. Perry, whose original brand Penny & Drum was featured in Glamour UK, proudly unveils the evolution of her work with the rebrand to Lava & Salt, a luxury fragrance and lifestyle house inspired by island heritage, artisanal craftsmanship, and the poetry of Bermuda’s natural beauty.

“Born of salt air, volcanic memory, and a devotion to storytelling, Lava & Salt embodies Perry’s refined artistry following her training at the prestigious avant-garde Institute of Art and Olfaction in Los Angeles. The brand’s collection of candles and perfumes captures the essence of Bermuda through imaginative, modern scents, each one an homage to our island’s unique landscapes, history and living traditions.”

“Lava & Salt is both an evolution and a return home,” said Perry. “It’s about distilling the feeling of Bermuda, its ocean wind, the warmth of its people, and the tapestry of all of our cultural memories into something tangible, luxurious, and meaningful.”

The spokesperson said, “As part of the relaunch, Lava & Salt introduces Hearthkeeper, a limited-edition candle honoring Jean Foggo Simon, the Bermudian genealogist whose groundbreaking research rekindled pride and recognition among St. David’s Islanders. Through her dedication, Simon helped restore vital connections between these Bermudians and their Native American ancestral roots- transforming a history of loss into one of belonging, identity, and renewal.

“Hearthkeeper captures that spirit of reconnection and continuity. Its fragrance weaves together the resinous strength of cypress, evergreen, and cedar, the sacred depth of incense and sandalwood, and the comforting sweetness of butter, almond, and vanilla, evoking the warmth of shared kitchens, island hearths, and stories kept alive through generations.”

“Jean Foggo Simon’s work reminds us that heritage isn’t static—it’s a living flame,” Perry explained. “Hearthkeeper celebrates that light that we keep for one another. It invites us all to tend to the stories that shaped us, to keep them glowing for the future.”

The spokesperson said, “The Hearthkeeper candle will be available December 2025 in limited quantities at The Island Shop, Queen Street, Hamilton.”
