MP Linda Smith On Southlands Park Decision
OBA MP Linda Smith has expressed her approval of the decision taken by the National Parks Commission to “reject the plans to have a zip-line facility built at Southlands National Park.”
A spokesperson said, “Linda Smith, the One Bermuda Alliance MP for Southampton West Central expresses her pleasure with the recent decision taken by the National Parks Commission to reject the plans to have a zip-line facility built at Southlands National Park.”
MP Smith said, “As we move into the holiday season and round out 2025, it is great to see that the National Parks Commission has ruled in favour of protecting Southlands National Park.
“Echoing the concerns of over 6,000 people who signed a petition against over-development and hundreds who attended the September rally at Southlands, it is gratifying to see that peoples’ concerns have been acknowledged and supported.”

Hope that after all of the turmoil and objections to an application that should have never been entertained this wacko idea gets permanently buried.
Southlands is a park, not Six Flags. Use it for quiet human pastimes, such as walking, camping and day use by groups, with minimal facilities needed to compliment such activities.
Government has had the property for 15 years now and there is nothing to show for it but building deterioration and talk. Lots of talk.
“not Six Flags”
Oh, good grief. Please do not put that idea to the PLP Government.
SOUTHLANDS.
The original owner of the land located at the Southlands showed a complete lack of interest required for the construction a traditional Bermuda building.
Then again did WW11 have some effect on the project.
So! it has Bermuda slate roof application .
Unfortunately incorrectly geometrically applied as we see in many other parish’s which its done to save money over the short term.
That is till the chickens come home yo roost !
i could refer that building as to be existing as a fools paradise with out charm or character.
There appears a cost cutting effort to reduce the cost over every turn in construction for the short run .
To be specific the ill advised roof angle is under condstructed or the proper concept or macanial reasons ignored.
I doubt if that building would be eligible or be accepted by the Bermuda Monuments Trust and could be considered by the trained eye as not acceptable .
With an effort to reallocate money or a passing thought to cut costs being a mis judged folly and also can be seen more recently as a hurricane insurance risk .
No wonder those in the know in the Government have not seen fit to invest capital in that building as many dreamers may have be told to glorify it.
Was common sense thrown to the wind . ?
