AES Launches Free Financial Literacy Program
The Adult Education School [AES] is offering its new Financial Literacy programme free to the public, opening limited spots to non-AES learners for the first time.
A spokesperson said, “The Adult Education School [AES], a cornerstone of inclusive education in Bermuda since 1958, is announcing the launch of a free public programmes – Financial Literacy – opening limited spaces to non-AES learners for the first time.
“Founded by Merle Brock Swan Williams, AES was built on the conviction that education must do more than confer credentials. Williams’ enduring philosophy – ‘Altitude in Our Thinking; Fortitude in Our Feeling; Magnitude in Our Doing; Gratitude in Our Praying’ – continues to guide the school’s mission to cultivate confidence, curiosity, civic responsibility, and character.
“Today, AES provides free, empathy-led foundational education and college and career readiness for individuals aged 16 and older who may have been underserved by traditional classrooms. Grounded in the ideals of social justice, dignity, and freedom, AES seeks to develop self-reflective, culturally aware, and responsible individuals—equipped to think independently and engage thoughtfully in society.
“As part of this commitment, AES now requires all learners to supplement free GED tutoring with financial literacy, recognizing these skills as essential for success in further education and the modern workforce.”
“The mission of AES has always been to provide access for the Bermudian community to a range of educational opportunities,” said Managing Director Arlene Brock. “We believe it would be irresponsible to limit our learners to GED tutoring alone. Accordingly, we equip them with essential life skills. The Financial Literacy classes are so well-designed and timely that we felt compelled to offer limited spaces to the broader community as well. We are indebted to HSBC for supporting this initiative, not only financially, but with presenters.”
The spokesperson said, “The six-month Financial Literacy Program, designed by volunteer Patrice Minors and the team at HSBC, is offered on the last Wednesday of each month, beginning on the 28th of January and running through the 24th June at no cost for all sessions. Participants will learn how to save and budget effectively, understand government spending, navigate global financial markets and their impact on Bermuda, and protect themselves financially. Guest presenters on 28 January for: ‘Introduction to Financial Literacy and The Basics of Money” are economist Craig Simmons and Selita Daniels of HSBC.’
“At HSBC, we believe financial literacy is fundamental to individual empowerment and economic resilience,” said Tanya Bule, Head of International Wealth and Premier Banking for HSBC Bermuda. “We are proud to support the Adult Education School’s Financial Literacy Program, which provides accessible, practical education that strengthens individuals, families, and the wider community. Initiatives like this help ensure more Bermudians are equipped to make informed financial decisions in an increasingly complex world.”
The spokesperson said, As the programme is free of charge and available on a limited-enrollment basis, don’t miss your opportunity to enroll today.
