Cathy Ann Harvey Named Mother Of Year
Bermuda Continental Society announced that Cathy Ann Harvey has been named the recipient of their Mother of the Year award, thanks to the heartfelt essay written by her daughter Mila Harvey, a Primary 6 student at Northlands Primary School.
A spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Continental Society is proud to announce Ms. Cathy Ann Harvey as the recipient of its 55th Mother of the Year award. This year’s honour is made even more special through the heartfelt essay written by her daughter, Mila Harvey, a Primary 6 student at Northlands Primary School.
“The annual competition once again showcased the deep appreciation and love that students across Bermuda have for their mothers and mother figures. Judges noted that they were particularly moved by the high quality of submissions, with many essays beautifully expressing the intrinsic value of maternal love, sacrifice, and unwavering support.
“Selecting a winner proved to be no easy task. However, Mila’s essay stood out for its sincerity and emotional depth. In her writing, she reflected on her mother’s selflessness, sharing how Ms. Harvey has often gone without to ensure that her five children have what they need. One line resonated strongly with the judges. Mila wrote that she could live a thousand lifetimes and would still choose her mother every time.”
Those powerful words ultimately set her essay apart and secured her mother’s place as this year’s honouree. Ms. Harvey remarked, “I am deeply honoured and truly humbled to receive The Bermuda Continental Society ‘Mother of the Year’ award. To me, receiving this recognition is not about being perfect, because no mother is, it is about showing up with love, doing my best, and continuing to care even when the days are hard.” She said to her daughter Mila, “Thank you for being such a beautiful part of my life. Your love, kindness, strength and laughter bring so much joy to my heart every single day.”
A spokesperson added, “The Bermuda Continental Society also extends its gratitude to the island’s teachers, acknowledging their continued dedication to guiding and supporting students in developing their writing skills and expressing their thoughts so meaningfully. Additionally, the organization wishes to acknowledge the generosity of the BGA group of companies for the donations of assorted snacks, which were provided to the winning student’s class.
“This cherished tradition continues to highlight the profound impact of mothers in shaping the lives of their children and the community.”
