After nearly 38 years of service, Chief Inspector Robert Cardwell is retiring from the Bermuda Police Service.

A police spokesperson said, “After nearly 38 years of dedicated service to the community, Chief Inspector Robert Cardwell is retiring from the Bermuda Police Service and beginning a new chapter.

“Known affectionately as “Rob” to many of those he worked alongside, he has served on the front lines of policing since joining the Service in 1987, most recently as a Department Head within the Tactical Division.

“Colleagues describe him as tireless, determined, and deeply committed to getting the job done. His leadership on key BPS priorities, including Operation Vega, earned him the respect of his peers and the appreciation of the many younger officers he mentored over the years.”

Acting Commissioner Na’imah Astwood, as she reflected on his service, said: “Chief Inspector Cardwell’s commitment was unwavering, and his impact was significant. He consistently delivered results, even under challenging conditions, and he leaves behind a legacy of service and leadership.”
