Deondre Morris Proud After Title Bout
Bermudian Muay Thai fighter Deondre Morris has returned home after competing for a world title on an historic pay-per-view card in Canada.
Morris faced local favourite Alec Spivey, a much larger opponent, at Rise of the Warrior 8, the first sanctioned Muay Thai event held in Ontario, but lost on points.
Despite the defeat, Morris said he was proud of his performance after facing a significantly taller opponent.
The bout marked the first time in ten years that Morris, 36, had fought for a world title.
“I accepted one of the biggest opportunities to compete against the biggest opponent I’ve had by far [my 98 kg v 123+ kg] to challenge for another world title,” Morris wrote on social media.
“In the end I didn’t get enough points to win, but I’m proud to have represented Bermuda on such a historic card, the first professional kickboxing promotion in Ontario, among top talents both amateur and professional.
“I’d like to thank everyone who supported from the beginning up until now; I hadn’t realised how long I’ve competed until I met up with so many fighters who are now coaches, fathers or gym owners, or all three, commending me for still going at it. Thank you for friendship and encouragement.”
