SCARS Launches Survey On Child Abuse
SCARS Bermuda is encouraging community participation in a survey, open until June 30, aimed at gathering updated information on the prevalence and impact of child sexual abuse in Bermuda.
A spokesperson said, “SCARS Bermuda is seeking the community’s support in gathering updated statistics about the prevalence and effects of child sexual abuse in Bermuda.
“The survey, which is open until 11.59pm on Tuesday, June 30th, aims to understand the scope of child sexual abuse in Bermuda, its effects, and the impact that SCARS’ trainings and advocacy work have had on awareness and risk reduction.”
“The insights gathered will be invaluable in helping us understand the true scope and traumatic consequences of abuse, so we can continue to align our advocacy efforts, awareness-raising strategies, and trainings to Bermuda’s specific context and meet the needs of survivors,” shared Debi Ray-Rivers, CEO and Founder of SCARS.
“I recognise that child sexual abuse is a sensitive and challenging topic, especially when sharing our own experiences. With survivors’ wellbeing and autonomy as our priority, this survey is designed to be respectful and supportive. No questions are mandatory, and all responses are completely anonymous.”
The spokesperson said, “SCARS’ work aims to equip adults with the skills and knowledge required to prevent or intervene responsibly to child sexual abuse, as well as raising community awareness of the devastation that child sexual abuse can cause in the life of an innocent child, their family, and a community.
“For nearly fifteen years, SCARS has offered prevention education training for parents, organisations that serve youth, and community members. Since 2011, nearly 15,000 have received training, over 25% of Bermuda’s population. SCARS also advocates for survivors of child sexual abuse within the community, and hosts a monthly radio programme, Survivor Hour, featuring real stories from survivors and conversations with industry experts.”
“We are so grateful for the community’s continued support of our mission to create a safer Bermuda for our children. Your time and honesty in this survey are so appreciated.”
“For further details or to participate in SCARS’ survey, visit https://forms.office.com/e/7Qm46D78Sm or find the survey linked on SCARS’ Facebook or Instagram. It is requested that participants are above the age of 18.”
