Bermuda Pacers Win Four Medals In Maryland
The Bermuda Pacers Track Club secured four medals and advanced multiple athletes to final rounds during the opening day of the 2026 International Youth Championships at the Prince George’s Sport and Learning Centre.
The Bermudian team earned one gold, two silver, and one bronze medal while competing against regional athletes.
In the Girls 3000-meter [15-16 Division], Bermuda secured a gold medal with a first-place finish in 12:31.78. The same runner later placed sixth in the Girls 800-meter final with a time of 2:30.65.
Bermuda captured its first silver medal in the Boys 3000-meter [13-14 Division], finishing second in 11:10.91. A second silver medal came in the Men’s 800-meter [17-18 Division] with a second-place finish in 2:01.51. Earlier in the day, that same athlete advanced through the 400-meter preliminary rounds with a time of 50.98.
The team’s medal tally concluded with a bronze in the Girls 800-meter [15-16 Division], crossing the line third in 2:25.74.
In the sprint events, a Bermudian competitor in the Boys 13-14 category qualified for the 100-meter grand final. After running 12.05s in the preliminaries, he posted a 12.21s in the semifinals to earn automatic qualification. The same sprinter also reached the 200-meter semifinals, finishing with a time of 25.18s.
Two Bermudian sprinters missed qualification for their respective short-sprint finals. In the individual results, one competitor placed ninth overall in the 100-meter semifinals in 12.89s and 10th in the 200-meter semifinals in 26.25s. In the 15-16 Girls division, another runner placed 10th in the 100-meter semifinals in 12.83s and 15th in the 200-meter semifinals in 26.29s.
In the field events, Bermuda placed two competitors in the Girls Long Jump [13-14 Division]. The top Bermudian performer finished sixth overall with a mark of 4.76 meters [15 feet 7.50 inches], while her teammate finished 20th with a mark of 3.87 meters [12 feet 8.50 inches].
