Commonwealth Games: Tyrone Smith Places 5th

2010_Commonwealth_Games_Logo Bermuda top athletes continue to represent the island in the 2010 Commonwealth Games being held in Delhi, India, with our top finish to date being a very impressive 5th.

Long jumper Tyrone Smith put on an top class performance to claim a 5th place finish in the Men’s Long Jump Final with his best leap being 7.76. Mr. Smith was the last jumper of the twelve competitors had leaps of 7.27 on his first attempt, 7.70 on his second, 7.76 on his third, before leaping 7.50 on his fourth. His fifth attempt went for 7.70m before he fouled on his sixth and final leap.

Bermuda’s top sprinter Tre Houston competed in Heat 2 of the men’s 200m semi-finals, finishing 6th in the heat with a time of 21.25, missing out on a place in the final.

In shooting Bermuda’s Nelson Simons and Sinclair Raynor teamed up in the Pairs Full Bore Open to finish 19th with a score of 179. The two then took part in the Singles Full Bore Open, competing at the 500 Yards Distance. Mr. Raynor finished 35th with a score of 153, while Mr. Simons finished 40th with a score of 141. Mr Simons, at 78-year-old, is the oldest athlete from all nations competing in these games.
