Caught In Act: Alleged Burglar Hospitalized

November 4, 2010

This morning (Nov 4) a 43-year-old man received injuries after allegedly breaking into residential home(s). The incident occurred in the North Shore Devonshire area by Clayhouse Inn and Loyal Hill.

The man was laying on the ground for a number of minutes while medical staff attended to him, prior to him being transported away by ambulance.

Medical staff appeared, to our layman eyes, to be paying special attention to the suspect’s neck/upper area – and a neck brace was placed on him as he lay on the ground. Unofficial reports indicate he may have not been conscious when found.

The injured suspect appeared, to our view, to only be wearing shorts. His shirt appears to have been removed while he was laying on the ground:

After a time of approximately 5-10 minutes of receiving medical treatment on scene, the suspect was loaded into the ambulance and taken away:

We spoke with a family member of one of the houses allegedly broken into, he says that someone chased the alleged burglar, caught him and beat him. The gentleman, Marvin “Duke” Woolridge, said he “picked the wrong house”, and he said to whoever beat him “thank you, and thats real talk”.

The gentleman expressed his strong disgust for breaking and entering saying “you can’t just go around breaking into people’s homes”. He said his niece was in the family home alone, and he is very thankful she was not injured.

Residents said the suspect is allegedly known to the Police, and residents say that the suspect is also known to them. Unofficial reports indicate something may have been used to beat the suspect – a bike helmet or something of that nature. It is unclear at this time who beat the suspect up, although it is assumed it was area residents.

Police confirm the entire incident, with Police Spokesman Dwayne Caines saying a few minutes after 10am this morning, Police responded to a report of a burglary that took place in the area of North Ridge Crescent (Loyal Hill area). Mr Caines said that it appears that a 43-year-old man was gaining entry into a property when a person in the dwelling noticed that he was there and they gave chase and set upon the suspect. Mr Caines further said that the suspect received injuries to his body and was taken to KEMH where he is being treated for his injuries.

We asked Mr Caines if the injured suspect will be arrested, and he replied yes – the suspect will be taken into Police custody, and an investigation into the surounding incidents will commence. Anyone who may know anything, or have seen anything, is asked to contact the Police on 295-0011.

Update 4:15pm: The suspect is still being treated in the Emergency ward, and we understand he is expected to be released at some point today. Official Police statement:

Around 10am on Thursday, Police responded to a report of a disturbance on North Shore Road in Devonshire in the vicinity of Loyal Hill Pass. Details about what occurred are unclear at this time; however it is alleged that the victim, a 43 year old Sandys parish man, was discovered attempting to burglarize an area home. The Sandys parish man was apparently injured by members of the public as he tried to flee the scene on foot and has been taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening. Inquiries into this incident are underway. Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with any information to contact the Hamilton Criminal Investigation Unit on 295-0011.

Update 8:45pm: The suspect has been arrested and is in Police custody, and residents have sent a message with a sheet flying in the area saying “Don’t Steal in Loyal Hill.

  1. Itcouldhappen says:

I knew it would only be a matter of time when something like this would happen. People are getting tired of persons invading thier privacy and releiving them of thier hard earned belongings. This guy messed with the wrong house/occupants. I hope the person is not charged with assault if he/she was defending thier property.

  2. Call as it is says:

    Good old fashioned Street Justice!!!

Break into my Home and watch what happens punk!!

  3. Speak my min says:

    LOLLL GOOOOD FOR HIM!

  4. Liz says:

Neighborhood watch at its best this fool got more than a slap on the wrist. JUSTICE has been served with a good old fashion beat down.

  5. D. Evans says:

My home was also burgalized by some punk, so I’m happy that this one got what he deserved!!!!

  6. Sara says:

I know I have my golf club and baseball bat ready for full force if someone dares to break in my home. It will not be pretty.

  7. Jays says:

They won’t prosecute him for assault, I have a guy who breaks into my house 5 times a year and the police have told us that we can “put him in a position so that he will still be at our home when they arrive” (obviously not going to directly say, yes beat the crap out of him)

  8. anyway says:

Always nice to see people condoning violence and “street justice”. You’re only increasing the tension, adding to the problem, and making things more dangerous for everyone else.
A very vocal minority of you are ridiculous, and you should be ashamed. Have fun perpetuating the cycle, I’m out.

    • Dee says:

      anyway.
With that attitude I’m sure we are so sad to see you go!

    • Dee says:

LOL…are you for real????? Hope you feel the same after they break into your home.

    • TOTALLY DISGUSTED! says:

whatever!!! @ anyway……WTH do you want them to do? Let him get away? then he gets a slap on the wrist from the judicial system???? I totally agree with BEAT HIS ASS!!! People work too hard to be dealing with these idiots breaking into their homes….what if they have kids? I feel sorry for anyone that steps onto my property and tries anything too….I do not like violence but a line has to be drawn somewhere!!

      • AK says:

We were broken into by some “punk” and we do have kids in our house. It is a horrible feeling having had someone in your home and stolen all of your things. It makes your kids feel unsafe in their own home! Most of the times, a smack on the wirst is all they get……it is DISGRACEFUL! This guy got what he deserved!!!!!

    • Anonymous says:

Obviously you have not had your possessions stolen from you and the police doing nothing about it!!!! If the police and courts were doing what they should with these creeps then joe public would not need to take matters into their own hands!!! He got what he deserved and probably what was coming for him!!!

    • Liz says:

Wonder how you would feel had it been your house. Ashamed I am not I have no pity for someone who invades anothers privacy. Not only is it an invasion of ones privacy consider the trauma that comes when you walk into your home and see that someone has been through every last drawer in your bedroom. Touched all your belongings thrown your house upside down stolen items that can never be replaced. Then because it was such hard work they steal the juice out of your fridge. I hope and pray you are never on the receiving end of a B&E.

    • Call as it is says:

      anyway,
      you are an idiot!!
bet you change your tune if and when it happens to you!

    • Scott says:

to be honest, you have a point whne it comes to vigilantism after the fact… like beating a robber 2 days later..call the police for that.

but if caught in the act… stop it right then and there. This type of street justice is fine in my books!

    • OMG says:

I guess you have never been violated or have the feeling of being raped and not even being there when it happens. I don’t condone violence, but I will not stand by and allow someone the break and enter and do nothing…..sorry.

      • What The FCUK says:

Did you SERIOUSLY just compare being raped to having your house broken into? SERIOUSLY? There is so much wrong with that statement I don’t know where to start.

        • OMG says:

I had my house broken into, all my personal effects all over the house, including my underwear, to this day I am not even sure if they walked away with some of them, so yes 2 years later I still feel like I was personally violated.

    • joe says:

What do you recommend? What these people did was outstanding. The more this happens the more the punks will learn, hopefully. I am sick and tired of seeing punks going to jail and while in jail they are treated as hotel guests and when they come out they do the same stuff. Now, i bet this thug wannabe is not going to go there again. That’s what is called learning from mistakes.

  9. Stunned says:

Standing ovation…That’s what long been needed…Good ole school buss @$$! Do it again next time break his fingers….Times are hard for everybody just because they choose to push it up their nose they think they can what they want to whomever to support their nasty habits! I don’t feel sorry for him not one bit! DATS WHAT U GET….Let that be a lesson to all thieves that do this crap!

  10. Stunned says:

@ Anyway so if you found yourself in this position and had the opportunity to defend your home you wouldn’t. As far as I am concerned its self defense..The homeowner/occupant could have been on the receiving end of both burglary and beaten which would you prefer…Well the obvious answer is of course neither…But I will put money on it that when this individual goes to court it will come up that he is a repeat offender and his sorry your honor he did it for his habit at which time he will be sentenced to jail where he won’t have to rob and steal for his drugs because they are readily available…then he will come out and while he may not pick that same house he will do it again..So I say all that to say THAT’S WHAT HE GETS….and any other perp who thinks this is ok to do…!

  11. HOTT HEAD says:

SERVESS HIM RIGHTTT!!!LOL LOL LEAVE PEOPLE SHITE ALONE AND U WON’T GET BEAT!!!LMARO THIS IS PRICELESS!!

  12. True Dat says:

Serves him the hell RIGHT!!! Stay de hell outta peoples homes and get a Motherf@#King JOB!!!!!

  13. your joking says:

word of warning…after you beat his ass drag him back into your home, other wise, believe it or not he can press charges…Happened to me after I was assaulted. Chased after the guy, caught up to him off property and had to drop charges on him otherwise he could have charged me.

    • TT says:

that is soooooooo insane on so many levels…….he pressing charges on you???

    • joe says:

No, look this is what you do next time. Do the same thing and when the police arrive it’s your word against his. The cops will believe you instead of the crook. Make sure there are very few onlookers and just say I never saw this guy in my life.

  14. GOOD ENOUGH says:

    SERVES HIM RIGHT. LOL

  15. Brenda says:

More people need to do the same thing it’s too much of this. People work hard for what they have and people like him just come in your house and take. Yeah he deserved it. I don’t feel sorry for him one bit. The person who beat him is my Hero! Gwan

  16. Not Surprised says:

I fully agree!! You want to break into my house and steal or possibly do worse!! And the law then lets you go or you serve minimal time. CUDOS to the house owner!! Lets show these punks we mean business and they will not rule our lives. @ anyway….I had a break in last year. I live on my own and I am a woman. An intruder came into my house. All of my lights were on as this was evening. God knows what he was there for or what his intentions were. Well I didn’t give him a chance as I yelled and grabbed my bat. He took off and I’m safe. I was terrified because he could have over powered me and hurt me pretty badly. What am I supposed to do throw a welcome party?? What would you do when you are in danger or your family is in danger? So you know what. I agree with this. What gives someone the right to invade your house and your life and leave you feeling scared and violated!!! I really hope this man doesn’t get prosecuted as I see it as self defense, he was defending himself and his family. I pray this never happens to you. But you can not sit there and say it’s wrong, when this has been going on for too long. And maybe if more things like this happened then these criminals would think twice about what they do and crime would decrease instead of blowing out of control like it already is. This is justice and that guy will think twice about trying to break into someones home again! I think you have lost sght of who the actual victim is here. It’s not the burgular that got beaten!! it’s the poor man whowalked into a room and saw someone trying to rob him and putting his life and household in danger THAT”S THE REAL VICTIM. We need to stop shifting that around. That burgular got what he deserved!

  17. Spikes says:

He got just what he deserved. If the law prosecutes him, the community should be up in arms. What right does anyone have to be nervy enough to enter your private home to steal something that you worked hard to get. Should have broken both of his legs.

  18. CAN says:

Neighborhood Watch GOOD JOB!! This is what we need in Bermuda the community to come together and get things under control. I bet he would think twice before he goes back to that hood.
    Well done Devonshire!

    Perosn named Anyway!!
From what perceive by your statment you stay in a neighborhood were there are no or burglaries. But I bet if this situation was to be on your back door you would be on the front page saying you took the person out because you felt threatened and it should be justified.

Please go to Utopia and talk your crazy talk.

  19. terry says:

Wow…this is another notch in declinning morals in Bermuda. Gangs shoot people that linger or mess with their turf et al and and people are afraid. Someone that is well known as stated is attacked and seriously injured and people think it’s cool and is called street justice.

This type of thought will create and even larger number of people to think that they can take the law into their own hands.

I see some terrible things comming soon to a neighborhood near you. People are fed up, I understand but do you really want to mirror instances of how we all ended up in this mess 1936 Germany, South Afica, Iran, Iraq, et al. One group against the next.

The system works, not perfect or suitable too all. Give it a chance. In one breath some abhore violence and in the next condone it.

    Sad times indeed.

    A safe day too all.

    • Mike says:

Sad times to be sure…. Violence starts with an unprovoked attack. Retaliation is normal – AND TO BE EXPECTED>>> we need swift and definite police action to prevent retaliation… not a complacent response wherin the victim is told the police are unable to do more than attaend and take a statement….
Violence is then the victim’s only option to regain some peace and consolation.

Bottom Line THE POLICE NEED TO GET THEIR ACT TOGETHER AND “police” NOT DRIVE AROUND AND MAKE UP THEIR 8 HOURS!! vIGILANTE ACTION IS ALWAYS AS A RESULT OF POOR POLICING AND BERMUDA HAS JUST THAT – VERY poor policing…. step it up guys, and gals… or go pack groceries!!

    • Chicken TERRYaki says:

You are a moron and a chicken Terry. If you catch someone breaking into your home you have every right to break into their skull period! There is no better way to prevent break-ins than for a criminal to know that the occupier of the home has the legal right to eliminate the threat. You are talking about things totally unrelated to burglary.

If he’s guilty then the guy deserved worse than he received
Well done! This is how you protect your neighborhood.

    • Jays says:

I’d like to hear you give the same speech after your entire family can no longer sleep at night because your house gets broken into all the time, he watches you from your patio to see when he should break in.. and the police have told you they know who is but because there is no proof and he always runs away you cannot charge him.. Break the guys legs so he’s still on your property when the police arrive I say!

Whoever disagrees has never had their house + car broken into :)

      • Bermy says:

Yeah more incoherrent babble from someone who doesn’t even live here..

  20. DARRIN DIZZLE says:

I heard the burglar was caught in the kitchen making a fist sandwhich! I guess he ate too much!

  21. Mike says:

Sh!t got real Foothills Road this morning.

  22. just can't believe it!! says:

Sooooo i arrive home at approx 9:30 to find this idiot running around the side of my house!! I quickly reversed so that the only way he could escape was to jump over the wall into the neighbors yard. Once I saw him do this I drove like a mad person down the road and along the road and into the neighbors yard where he was casually walking. He looked at me and I shouted to the entire surrounding area the description of the burglar and that he was trying to break into my house! He ran off and I returned home to secure my property. A short time later I hear sirens and hear that the possible burglar has been caught! Well done to everyone in my neighborhood and to whomever caught this idiot i can’t thank you enough!!! I’m very glad that I chased him into your arms! :-)

Let’s get back to ole school were we are each others keepers!!!!

  23. Mixitup says:

No smpathy in my Camp, I wish this happened more often.. To the idiot who thinks the homeowner was wrong for kicking his A$$, you need to find your fantasy Island to live on, because this is the real world buddy. Your house is suppose to be your sanctuary from the ills of the world. He’s lucky he wasn’t in the States and gotten his head blown off!

  24. Mark says:

You’re a bunch of hypocrites because most of you that are glorifying “street justice” would be first to speak out against the “street justice” that involves guns. When individuals are making judgments about who is a criminal and meting out their own justice we are one step away from anarchy. If we condone vigilantism then we essentially giving a free pass to violence as a means to solve our problems. People start ascribing intent to this guy’s actions, that he needs to “get a job”, that he was there to steal. Maybe he’s been laid off, like many people in this island. Maybe he’s desperate to feed his family, so desperate that he breaks into someone’s house. Does it make stealing right? Of course not. Does it make it worthy of beating him senseless or breaking “both his legs” as the enlightened Spikes would have us do?

Maybe he’s drunk or high or maybe he’s forgotten to take his meds or he’s confused in some other way and thinking he’s climbing into his bedroom window because he lost his keys but actually his house is next door. Sound far fetched? Maybe, but it’s possible. But the vigilante doesn’t know this, just wants to teach someone a lesson. Well the guy who gave this beating should be prosecuted by police since it was a premeditated act of violence with intent. It wasn’t in his own home in an effort to protect himself or his property but an excuse to take his frustrations out on another human being.

I know I’ll be ridiculed here and I’m fine with that. And yes, my house has been broken into, my parent’s house has been broken into as well as many friends. Sure it’s a traumatic experience and I wouldn’t want to go through it again. But I also know that most people who break into houses to steal stuff don’t deep down want to be doing that as a life choice. Whether they are desperate from homelessness, unemployment, drug addiction, whatever they are still human beings that can be helped.

If people spent as much energy trying to fix the inequalities in this island and help those that are suffering as they do complaining about gun violence or celebrating vigilantes, we’d be a better country for it…

    • tiny dancer says:

      This comment wins the post.

    • MCFC says:

      @ Mark,

So your saying if someone breaks into your house we should list off all the possible reasons in our heads for that individual doing so and then forgive them? Sorry, but most of these guys are repeat offenders, would you like them to get away and then stab tourists in the middle of the night @ Grotto Bay? There is nothing wrong in the community defending themselves against criminals. This man is a criminal and deserved what he got. If he had broken into the house and attacked the 24 year old girl, what then? People have to realize that there are consequences for actions, and sometimes these are not coming from the legal system but from the people themselves. I say keep it it up. If someone breaks into your house beat them and keep them on the property till the police arrive if you can. That way they can do no more harm to anyone else.

      • Mark says:

If your intent is to defend yourself or your property in your own home I have no problem with the use of force. If your intent is to chase someone down the road and beat them to teach them a lesson then you’re a criminal as well, according to the law. If you’re able to detain someone at your home (using force if necessary) until the police arrive then fine. If not, make a report and get some new locks for your property.

        • TOTALLY DISGUSTED! says:

OH GIVE ME AN EFFIN BREAK MARK!!! DO YOU NOT SEE WHAT IS GOING ON!??!????? THESE A##HOLES DO THE CRIME AND GET A SLAP ON THE WRIST BY THE JUDGES….SO HECK YES IF THEY GET CAUGHT IN THE ACT THEY NEED A GOOD OLE BEAT DOWN!!! PAAAAAALEEEEEZE (HOLD THEM WITH FORCE UNTIL THE POLICE GET THERE)…WHATEVER!!! YOU ARE ONE ANNOYING PERSON “GET SOME NEW LOCKS FOR YOUR PROPERTY!!! WTF!!! A##HOLES NEED TO STAY OFF PEOPLES PROPERTY OR SUFFER THE CONSEQUENCES!! A BUST ASS!!!!

AND CAN ANYBODY TELL ME WHERE “ANYWAY” WENT??? HE/SHE IS SURELY QUIET NOW….LOL!

          • TOTALLY DISGUSTED! says:

OR MAYBE “MARK” IS “ANYWAY”….TWO IDIOTS! OR ONE IDIOT PRETENDING TO BE ANOTHER ….EITHER WAY…STFU!

    • Um Juss Sayin says:

Mark- you’re point of view borders on lunacy! Are you an addict or on meds??

Instead of trying to sound intelligent and empathetic, try reading the article: it said that the alleged burglar is known to the people AND police- so meds or not, he deserved what I choose to call, swift justice.

No court for him- no slap on the wrist- he got beat upside the damn head- something I’m sure he won’t soon forget if he should ever try to break into another home in the future.

    • Mixitup says:

Have you bumped your head Mark? Desperate to feed his family? Well go to financial assistance..Drunk or High? then go to re-hab.. Confused and think’s he’s climbing into his own window? then MAWI is just up the street.. ( If this jerk wants to see hard times, tell him go to Haiti) In the mean time he got what he deserved. No one here condones violence, im sure, but there is a valid reason why the home-owner won’t be prosecuted as this is because it’s considered self defense!

      • Mixitup says:

……Judge Judy would have a field day with you Mark!

      • Mark says:

It’s not self defense to chase someone down the street and beat them. There are many people in Bermuda struggling right now – many of us don’t see them because they live on the margins and outside of our peripheral vision.

I agree that financial assistance would be a start for someone struggling financially. Your points about the addict going to rehab and the confused person going to MAWI display an ignorance for the nature of these conditions. Not that those aren’t good courses of action, but more so that the person in an acute position such as active addiction or a mental health episode are not always capable of making rational decisions in their best interest.

        • Um Juss Sayin says:

So your’re suggesting, because someone may be on drugs or confused when they break into my home, that I should take time to consider that- well, my dear, I am not taking time to consider anything. They’re invading my space- and unless you are breaking in to leave me money- I’m taking you down!
Chasing him- did you ever stop to think this person has been a menace to the people living in the area and they’ve finally had enough?
Say he got away-he’d be back tormenting the neighbour later this afternoon.

And for the severity of the beating- when you’ve had enough- you’ve had enough and these area residents obviously had enough!!

        • Mixitup says:

Excuse you? I recently got off financial assistance after not being able to find work for 1 year… I didn’t climb in anyones window to take what they’ve worked hard for. I sucked up my pride and asked for help, this goes for his addiction as well. I’m not at all a violent person, but I will assure any criminal who violates my home, licks will be trumps! Now those who chose to pull out a Bible and pray with him – Good for them, I aint one of umm!

        • Anonymous says:

Mark I agree you need your head examined. I am sorry but if someone can tell me who the indvidual is that was trying to break into my house and they get away, the next time I see them, no matter where it is they are going to get the beat down they deserve.

Too many times these individuals get away with the crime because their is no evidence, ie fingerprints.

        • Pitbull says:

@ Mark Did you not have a good nights sleep last night what planet are you from You need to wake up quickly!!!

    • URAmoron says:

This was an honorable act and can in NO WAY be compared to criminals toting guns or breaking the law. Just shut the hell up!

    • Tired of nonsense says:

maybe he shouldn’t try to gain access to someone else’s property…for every action there is a reaction…

break into my house and invade my family’s private space then such actions will be met with force…we all have the right to defend your own…

And imagine if he was high or drunk got caught and proceeded to attack you and yours in their current “mental state”

  25. msjt21 says:

attempting to speak from a neutral perspective; I can’t blame someone for protecting their own, but looking at the circumstances, This man was apparently beaten unconscious! I can condone restraint but realistically this could be seen as a serious assault. It’s hopefully a case of a simple knock out that this guy will recover from and feel he has learned a lesson. On the other hand, who’s to say he wasn’t seriously injured? then what?
We can all quickly come to the conclusion that a good beat down is warranted, but what we also all know is how easily things can escalate. Last i checked, brain beat brawn, so I say to you, work on being more rational instead of stooping to a lower level.

  26. Mike says:

    Antoine said it best

He’s climbin in your windows…He’s snatchin your people up

Hide your kids, Hide your wife…and hide your husband

You don’t have to come and confess
    We’re lookin for you
    We gon find you
    We gon find you
So you can run and tell that,
    Run and tell that
    Run and tell that, homeboy

    You are so dumb
    Rou are really dumb–for real

  27. just can't believe it!! says:

    To MARK & msjt21!!!!

Mark you said: “Whether they are desperate from homelessness, unemployment, drug addiction, whatever they are still human beings that can be helped.”

Well guess what retard, maybe now that he’s been caught he can get the help we requires! Maybe when you find him on your door steps you’ll invite him in for a chat and a cup of cofee while he waits patiently for the police!

  28. Call as it is says:

Not one of you wouldnt crack a burglar in your own home if you could,
so dont anymore start typing with the high morale ground!

  29. WTH! says:

Let’s not forget every actions has a reaction pick the bones out of that. Let me remember to think of the burglars safety and set of bad circumstances which led him to break into my house b4 the safety of my family …WTH?! REALLY?!

  30. msjt21 says:

Never said i wouldn’t give em a crack! just saying i wouldn’t beat em over the head till they are unconscious and get my self a case over it. Think about the home owner. He’s stressed right now! wishing it was over, but he knows it isn’t. A little restraint on his behalf and he could have personally handed the guy over to police. When you just beat a guy and leave him, the police have no choice but to investigate! If RG is to be believed, he may have had some help along the way too. If you can beat them i bet restraining them isn’t that much different. I just don’t want to start seeing bodies on the ground as i drive out of my damn neighborhood.

@ call as it is….what you want? everyone to have low morals?….Idddiot!

    • DARRIN DIZZLE says:

This did happen in town! Who has morals there? If the neighborhoods would beat the riff raff like this that hang on the walls getting high maybe less people would get shot. The world is too soft now. The police in Bermuda only show up after the fact. The only people they catch red handed are speeders, drunk drivers and people with tint or without seatbelts. When is the last time you heard of them being around when an actual crime was taking place?

      • Mark says:

You don’t hear of the police being around when an actual crime is taking place because people aren’t usually stupid enough to do a crime when the police are there.

        • DARRIN DIZZLE says:

Hey Mark! That’s just the thing. The police are never there where the crime is. They’re either eating in their cars or at the station playing Wii. They never walk the beat or make their fat donut eating arses seen which might prevent some of this crime.
Mark my words Mark! I bet you there’s not a cop on Court street right now!

          • ok says:

Darren you sound like a real idiot. So if a police car is parked up on Court St. someone is going to do a crime? Use your brain fool.. Most incidents take a matter of seconds by time people call it in obviously the police will arrive after. You’re an idiot

          • D aka insiDe man says:

I have seen the police cars on the side of the road with officers playing a PSP.

  31. JAH SON says:

THAT’S WAT I LIKE 2 SEE……A GOOD OLD BEATING…….THAT’S WAS UP, HE GETS WAT HE DESERVES

  32. Truth is killin' me says:

This island has become a bunch of bleeding heart, cotton gloved, candy assed P*SSIES! IF YOU DO THE CRIME, BE PREPARED TO TAKE YOUR F*CKING MEDICINE! LET THE BEAT DOWNS BEGIN!!!!Coming to a neighbourhood near you!!!!!!!!

  33. TT says:

way to go public!! we need more neighbours and folk like this!! Beat the damn theives!!

  34. Mark says:

Some of you may remember the murder of the Cooper twins by Kenneth Burgess (and Dennis Robinson as accomplice). The Cooper twins allegedly beat up Mr. Burgess’s father and allegedly stole money from him – criminals you all would call them. Well Mr. Burgess and Mr. Robinson picked them up and took them to a house where Mr. Burgess proceeded to beat them to death with a baseball bat. I call that murder, and the courts and the jury agreed. Sounds like everyone here would be happy because “street justice” was done. That’s the problem with vigilantism – where is the “acceptable” line, where does it stop? And who decides what the punishment is? Is it OK to break both their legs as an earlier poster suggested? To beat them to death? Or only to beat them to within an inch of their life?

    • Jays says:

If they do it so often that they feel comfortable enough to watch you from outside your front door, then yes, break the guys legs. The police gives you TWO binders of 500+ pictures of people, doesn’t matter if you saw the guy, unless you got a picture of him its really hard to remember someones face after looking at so many. 9/10 times the guy will get off if he wasn’t caught at the scene because of these ludacris methods.

So to stop him from leaving? Make sure he can’t.

  35. Ray says:

It’s about damn time somebody was caught. I hope the guy ain’t injured too bad so his ass can go to jail. And people talking about all this vigilante stuff, we are not out here shooting them, all he did was beat him. He was protecting himself and his neighbors that also were robbed from. As long as nobody shooting then, what the hell, beat ‘em till the cahows come home.

  36. Peace and Love says:

I am going to respond to this despite my better judgement….To those of you that feel he should not have gotten a “beat down” all I can say is WOW! and poor you!!!…The fact that he is known to be a repeat offender means that if he has been incarcerated in the past for breaking and entering he has obviously not learned his lesson…maybe this beating will serve as a friendly reminder to him that if you break into someones home than you stand a chance of getting “broken”. Even though he was rendered unconscious I still say that he got off lightly..In some parts of the world your arm would be chopped off and you would be forever identified as a thief!!!…S*&T happenss! maybe next time he will think twice!! no sympathy here!!!!!

  37. Truth is killin' me says:

@ Mark…STFU!!!!!!You sound like a P*SSY!GROW SOME…WOULD YOU!?Kenny was pushed to that limit. Lets see how you would take it when your father was attacked after having had a stroke!?

    • Mark says:

Wow, your rampant sexism / hatred of women is showing through there Truth. Not sure exactly how I would react if my father was attacked, but would like to think probably not by killing the people responsible. I know Kenny well and I know he has a temper, which is most likely why the Coopers ended up dead instead of in the hospital. But he did the crime so he’s doing the time, based on the law, which is the way it should be.

  38. well says:

the way that the article reads, it appears that no one knows who beat up this guy, so if that is the case, no one can be prosecuted for it can they?

  39. R Marney says:

CALLING ALL BURGLARS AND THIEVES: IF YOU BREAK INTO MY PLACE – YOU WON’T WALK OUT – YOU WILL BE CARRIED.

  40. terry says:

Teriaki…..Your absolutely correct, I am a moron and have no clue.
    Have a great day.

  41. Andrew says:

I don’t condone street justice but I have no problem supporting the use of reasonable force to effect a citizen’s arrest or restrain the criminal until police arrive. If the perpetrator gets injured in the process, too bad.

If he was beaten as retribution for his crime, then both individuals should be charged with a crime. Which is worse, a crime against property or a crime against person?

I spoke with a guy from texas who told me about his neghbor’s experience with an intruder. He chased the intruder out of his house and shot him in the back and killed him as he ran across the property. When the police arrived, they told the homeowner that he was going to be arrested because in Texas you can only use deadly force to get your property back and the guy had fled with no property. The homeowner went back in, picked up his stereo, brought it back outside and smashed it down on the intruder. That fixed the problem and the arrest was never made. The crime scene photos showed the thief to be in posession of a stolen stereo.

  42. just can't believe it!! says:

Unbelievable!!! I find this guy trying to gain entrance to my home and chase him down (little was he expecting that) and people are still saying that he was chased and attacked! REALLY??? I wanted him to know that I saw him in hopes that he would never return, however he was attacked before I could get to him. Honestly, I hope that he really gets the help and assistance that he requires! I know this guy was watching my house, he had to have been. He just didn’t anticipate me returning home when I did. Poor him!! I always read these forums, just never thought I would one day be apart of one, but then again that could be the issue. We all live our little privates lives thinking we’ll never be affected. So i’m here to tell u Bermuda WAKE UP because we all are being affected!

    • Not Surprised says:

I agree and GOOD FOR YOU!!!!!!! I applaude that you went after him and cornered him. He still got away but was cuaght up with by others!! KARMA IS A B!tch. Don’t be prepared to do bad and not receive what’s coming to you! I am in your court buddy! I did the same thing. Only my guy got away and I was left with torn ligaments going after him!! No where to be found and the police could do nothing! My neighbours came to my rescue but the man was long gone. I had no way of fully describing him and they would not be able to attain the proper prints. So if you can catch him in the act and get them MORE POWER TO YOU! Then a good smack is deserved. I am a woman and i will stand up for myself as should everyone else ever put in that situation. I have more fear of what could have been if i hadn’t stood up for myself. Who the hell do these criminals think they are? If he hadn’t gotten caught then he would be back to do it again and maybe next time he’ll think of raping a young child or an older person in the process. By having a good bust a$$ he’s gonna think twice about it, because he now knows this neighbourhood will not stand for it!!! I will not turn away and complain about the crime if i’m not prepared to do something about it. Police are streched to the limits and their hands are tied in so many situations. As i see it we the citizems are an extension of the police. Vigilantism??? If that’s what people want to call it then fine. But i think Bermuda and it people need to start looking out for each other like the good old days when this would have happened. And you know what WE WERE SAFER THEN. So the older generations were doing something right! If you don’t want to help out or make a change to our depleating safety then go ahead and stand on the sidelines and pass the criminals water and fruit as they run past you…..because you wouldn’t want them dehydrating and loosing energy while they rob your house or worse!

  43. T says:

LOFL!!!! FINALLY! Justice has been served to that THIEF right away! I bet he wont be round there anymore!

  44. terry says:

So where are these heros of the ‘villiage’. You know, the ones we all look up too now. Why did they run/walk away and not stay until the Police came and offer info as to what they saw and did.

This was a brutal beating and unjustified. We weren’t there but I doubt he had a gun, machette et al.

This give new meaning to the term of “Justice is Blind”.

Stop him, detain him and await authorities. Just imagine if it was someone almost identicle to this person found and beaten.

But back on track, all these people beatin up but not accountable for their actions? Must have been all those stay at home dads,,,,,,,,,

  45. just can't believe it!! says:

NOT SURPRISED!! Thank u! Actually I am a woman! 5 feet and 100 lbs soaking wet!! And trust me i was ready to take him on!! Enough is enough! I can’t even describe how I felt when I realized that this intruder was not working on my windows but just intruding! I will protect what is mine and most importantly the ones I love. The entire neighborhodd was affected by this idiot and i felt the right to inform everyone along the way! My nerves are still rattled and i’m still feeling very angry and distrubed by this wntire situation but i promise that I will be able to sleep to night because I know I can! Or can I? I just hope that my neighbors feel the same about me that I felt about them at the time. Peace & love always xoxoxo.

    • Not Surprised says:

Your Welcome. I am also 5ft and 100lbs. Which makes everyone bigger then us and puts us at more threat! Sleep well knowing you did everything you could to protect yourself and tell hell with those that don’t agree because thay have no clue what it actually feels like being us knowing that we can be overpowered at any time and how araid we really are, but have to act tough to let these criminals know they don’t scare us!! Peace love and STRENGTH! We will not let them win!

  46. Brasco says:

BIG UPS TO THE OWNER!!!…MAGISTRATES COURT WILL NEVER GIVE HIM THIS TYPE OF BEATING!..I WOULDN’T BE SURPIRSED IF THIS CRACK HEAD ONLY GETS A 3 MONTH SENTENCE

  47. Call as it is says:

I really dont give a rat’s a$$ what any of you think or say…
you would all do the same thing if it was your home or Mamma that got broke into.

  48. terry says:

“Call as it is says:” , those are some harsh words and some great explanation of your feelings. I can tell by your writing and summation that you have just graduated from College and hold a degree in journalism.

I love the “Mamma that got broke into”. Sounds like a violation too me. Please send me 10, 000 rats. And it’s “ass” not dollars.

    • Call as it is says:

      terry,
you don’t know NOTHING.You Don’t even live here.

  49. terry says:

And your point is. “You don’t even live here”. What on earth do you mean by that. I really want to know and have an answer. Really……

    • Call as it is says:

      terry,
didnt your Mamma ever tell you..
      I want never gets.
have you ever been broken into,if you had,you would be singing the same as most here are.
Save your time,I’m not replying to anything you put.

  51. Anthony says:

Justice finally in Bermuda, stay alert people, robbing homes is the new pastime in Bermuda.
Lock up at all times. But protect yourself and your family to the extreme as these scumbags have no respect for life period!

  52. terry says:

Fine with me. Go kill each other and take justice into your own hands. Guess living there make you better judges. Enjoy. Don’t have to answer to me, period.

What an attitude, really. Best of luck and may the canage continue.

  53. Burglary victim too ... says:

The offender is ‘NOTORIOUS’ … When he gets out , he’ll go right back to his old ways … He’s incapable of learning , even though this was the best lesson he’s ever had ! lol

  54. 26 says:

This particular guy has allegedly been in my house on three seperate times, my dads house twice, atleast three of my friends homes as well as allegedly knocking down down a very good older lady friend and allegedly stole her purse. He has allegedly made a career out of breaking and entering peoples homes spaning 25 years and is allegedly suspected to be responsible for thousands of breakins during this period. He has been afforded every oppotunity to turn his life around often at tax payers expense.Personaly it sounds like he finally got a long overdue but still not hard enough beating.if the court system did more to protect the public instead of the criminal it would not have to come to this.I believe everybody should get a chance but there comes a point where the public need protection.I only wish I could buy a round for those that finally caught him.Bang him harder next time CHEERS!

    • Judy Cann Outerbridge says:

With u on this one lets hope he learns from this but prob NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!

  55. Kraken says:

All the people here condoning violence are they themselves violent by nature. They will moan and cry about if it were your house or my house and my mother etc. but that is an excuse, they simply have no concept of responsibility and are hiding their own lack of ethics and moral compass. Adults in this community take no responsibility for their flaws, the children are a complete reflection of the people on this message board, you will all make every excuse in the book but at the end of the day you are no different from the criminal who was beaten.

By your very own assumption of eye for an eye, his mates have every right to seek out those who injured him and do the same. You would then all have to sit there and say…’well, um, i guess they had it coming’.

Of course the sad point is that I and others who take this stance will be completely outnumbered, a poor reflection on this island and the single reason we are where we are.

As for the point of the police not doing this and not doing that, the majority of posters on this topic will have spent their lives convincing their children (like cancer) that the ‘po po’ are evil and corrupt and bad, when in actuality the only police corruption you have experienced will be the one you watched on cops last night. Your inference that you have experienced this is an insult to the men and women in history who have legitimately suffered from oppression and injustice (not that you care as it is another convenient excuse for you to justify your flaws and behavior).

Let the flames begin, I will enjoy counting the excuses.

  56. Thankful says:

So, the next time someone breaks into your house you should let them take all your hard earned items and walk away and sell them for just enough to get a fix or feed their family or just appease their unstable mental condition. I came to that conclusion after hitting my head on the concrete and I can’t think clearly. Any clear thinking person is going to kick ass and put ALL crooks on notice that if they come into their neighborhood, you do so at your own peril. We have given the legal system too many chances, they have failed us miserably and now we the people have to help each other to stay safe. The “Police Service” is a joke, what happened to the “Police FORCE”. The name Police Service has a ring to it like we are here to serve you a cup of tea and coffee and a few donuts. The Police Force sounds like men and women out there kicking ass on behalf of the citizens of this country.

I say a great big THANK YOU to the person that beat the crap out of that guy who is known by the Police and others and who probably has a stash of items stolen from many of the people that have commented here. Great job Loyal Hill. Other neighborhoods need to post that sign at the entrance to their street so that the crooks can’t say they weren’t warned.

  57. enough says:

I don’t know the ins and outs here but if beating this guy unconscious was in defence of property, why did no one involved in the beating hang around, standing proud? A few of them against 1 and weapons used. I look forward to the insanity on here and elsewhere when the police arrest and interview those who beat him up as I’d have thought they were duty bound to do.
Defending your own life and property or that of another, reasonable force can and should be used if you feel you’re not putting yourself or others at greater risk, but this apparently goes beyond that.
Morally correct doesn’t equal legally correct and the police in this situation are damned if they arrest these caped crusaders and damned if they don’t.
    Tough one.

  58. Brown Mark says:

I’m sure this guy was just down on his luck – a good guy. Just turning his life around – never been in touble. It was his first break in job – honestly. He never meant any harm and was going to give the stolen goods back. And he’s found the Lord your Honour. (HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH).

  59. DARRIN DIZZLE says:

@OK or is it OG@y? Your momma was the idiot for having you! I was saying the cops are never around to prevent crime. They know where the weed is on Court Street but do they sit there to deter it? They remind of toilet paper because they don’t roll out until after crap happens! Bermuda cops are not proactive you nimrod. They need to keep a presence in high crime areas.
You must be a cop! I can tell because you were rude to me first ya dirty basset!
