Environment Dept: Soot In Harbour Is Non-Toxic
The Department of Environmental Protection has advised the public “not to be alarmed by the buildup of sooty flotsam in Hamilton Harbour yesterday.”
Due to a technical problem a boat spit out the soot into the water. Recovery efforts are being undertaken to clean up the soot, and the problem is currently being managed by both the Department of Environmental Protection and the Department of Marine and Ports, who stress the soot is non-toxic.

The Department of Environmental Protection wishes to advise the public not to be alarmed by the buildup of sooty flotsam in Hamilton Harbour yesterday.
A technical problem onboard the yacht Mirabella V, moored off the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club, has caused the boat to spit out the non-toxic soot into the water.
The ongoing problem is currently being managed by both the Department of Environmental Protection and the Department of Marine and Ports, who stress there is no toxicity associated with the soot.
The Department of Environmental Protection conducted a site visit yesterday and have discovered that the problem is due to a malfunctioning generator.
Recovery efforts are being undertaken to clean up the soot. In the interim period the Mirabella V is moving west of Spanish Point which, with the prevailing south-westerly wind, will blow this material north easterly and out to sea.

How do you know? Was it tested? I think the rich yacht owner payed somebody off… I know how it goes… how could it have been properly tested in less than a day?
This is ridiculous. Anyone with half a clue can google the toxicity of soot and see this DEP statement makes no sense.

Soot is full of poly-aromatic hydrocarbons, which are carcinogenic, and toxic to humans and marine life. It is not appropriate to move the boat so that it can spread its soot out into the reef lagoon, where we catch the fish we like to eat.
