Two Americans Charged In Drug Case

October 11, 2011

In Magistrates’ Court this morning [Oct.11], two American women, Alloah Joan Releford, 23, and Latoya Nicole Powell, 28, were charged with conspiracy to import drugs. The two women had arrived in Bermuda as passengers on a cruise ship, and have been remanded in custody.

The allegation was that between a date unknown and 8th October 2011, the two had conspired with others not before the Courts to import a quantity of cannabis resin into Bermuda.

The Court was told that the drugs were found strapped to the women’s bodies and that the total weight was 2.7 kgs [6lbs].

Neither woman had legal representation, and since the charge was indictable and can only be dealt with in the Supreme Court, neither woman entered a plea. Senior Magistrate Archie Warner remanded both women into custody until 25th October.

    • Street talk says:

I dont have a problem with Police searching cabins. When they charge someone $1,500 for 2 grams or 4 joints for you non-smoking but know it all out there. Thats what I have a problem with.

If tourism was at its lowest since the 80′s why charge so much for small amounts further making more people avoid Bermuda. If you charge one person with that stupid amount then he will tell at least 40 friends and family to avoid going.

Im sure If i went somewhere and they burnt my ass like that I would surely tell people to avoid that country, Peiod !!!

      • Terry says:

There are a lot of fall guys out there.

      • Sandgrownan says:

Surely, you would check first what the legal approach to drug was before travelling? Ignorance is no excuse.

        • Talk2mestr8 says:

        • Terry says:

      • Alana(2nd Chance) says:

I understand what you are saying, but if you don’t want to get “burned” don’t disobey the law…

FYI Customs Officer search the cruise ships not the Police.

      • k says:

Police do search the cruise ships as well Customs use Police dogs and Police handle the dogs

        • Knowthefacts says:

          Not true. Do your homework.

          • Terry says:

How many dogs do Customs have and where are they kept No yah Fects………

          • FACTS says:

You’re absolutely correct @ knowthefacts. Police DO NOT search the cruise ships. CUSTOMS search the ships with CUSTOMS K-9s and CUSTOMS handlers.
