Man & Woman Appear On Drug Charges

March 8, 2012

In Magistrates Court this morning [Mar.8], 43-year old Anthony Lewis Davis of Schools Drive Devonshire was charged with two counts involving controlled drugs.

Count one was that on 17th February 2012, he had cannabis in his possession and that he had this amount with the intent to supply. The second count was that on the same date, he had in his possession equipment intended for use with a controlled drug. The street value of the drug was said to be over $12,000.

Mr Davis was given a trial date of 9th May 2012, and he was granted bail of $10,000 with one like Surety.

Separately and immediately after, twenty-seven year-old Shakeda Davis, said to be living at the same address as Anthony Davis, was also charged with possessing cannabis with the intent to supply.

She faced a second charge of possessing cannabis resin with intent to supply. Both these charges carried the tag of having occurred in an Increased Penalty Zone because they occurred with 300 metres of a school.

Questioned by Senior Magistrate if there was a ‘legal nexus’ between the two cases, Crown Counsel Nicole Smith said that from the files she could not easily tell. However, in the light of what she could determine, it appeared that the two cases, currently separate, would likely be joined and treated together. Crown Counsel asked if, at this stage, the two matters could be set to heard at the same time.

Senior Magistrate then set Ms Davis trial date for 9th May, and set bail at $10,000 with one like Surety.

Both Davis’s re-appear for Mention on 9th April. Crown Counsel indicated that any action to join the two matters would be taken then.
