Upcoming: Argus Healthy Living Expo

March 22, 2012

The Argus Group today [Mar.22] announces that it has redesigned its annual health event, formally known as the Argus Health Fair, as the Argus Healthy Living Expo, in order to build on the success of recent years and enhance its relevance and accessibility to a wider cross-section of the community.

For the first time, the event will take place at the weekend on Saturday, March 31, from 10am until 3pm.

The event also moves to a new venue, CedarBridge Academy, which will allow for an increase in exhibitors and plenty of activities to occupy visitors at the expo including a bouncy castle for children. Admission to this event is free.

The Argus Group has once again partnered with the Bermuda Hospitals Board [BHB] and the Department of Health to put together this event.

There will be over 40 booths at the fair representing health-related charities, professional associations, medical departments and non-profit organisations. For the first time this year Argus is trialling the addition of select
local health-related businesses as exhibitors, so that the Argus Healthy Living Expo offers broader participation from the whole health industry.

Confirmed exhibitors include: Bermuda Heart Foundation; Open Airways; Catlin End to End; National Drug Council; Norwex, Natural Ltd (Nutrifit); Fitness Bay, Cambridge Beaches; The Raw Food Edge and Bermuda General Agency (BGA).

As ever, health professionals will be on hand to answer questions and provide information to the public on a wide range of health topics.

The theme for the Expo and the Argus booth this year is “Jump Start Your Heart” with a focus on raising awareness of heart health, educating the public on managing the risk factors of heart disease and how to live a “heart healthy” lifestyle. Visitors to the booth will be able to take part in fun physical challenges to win grocery vouchers.

Building on the success of the “Jump 2b Fit” workshop series in February 2012, which was organised by Bermuda Heart Foundation and sponsored by the Argus Group, the Argus Healthy

Living Expo will showcase jump rope as a means of getting fit and looking after your heart health. The Northlands Skippers and the Bermuda Heart Foundation will provide jump rope demonstrations at the event to inspire others to take up this inexpensive but effective exercise.

Alison Hill, CEO of the Argus Group, says: “We have redesigned our annual health event to better represent the total wellness approach advocated by the Argus Group.

“Being healthy isn’t solely about your medical concerns and how you manage them – it’s a combination of many lifestyle factors including, diet, exercise, preventative healthcare and more. As healthcare costs, and as a result, insurance premiums, continue to rise year on year we want to increase public awareness of this holistic approach to maintaining good health and the Argus Healthy Living Expo is an engaging and fun way to do so.”

Minister of Health Zane DeSilva says: “We are proud to support this annual Argus health event. The format has been refreshed to increase its appeal so we want to see more people than ever attending. There will be something for everyone to learn and do at the Argus Healthy Living Expo, with the aim of helping people to better help themselves when it comes to improving their health and that of their families.”

Venetta Symonds, Designate Chief Executive Officer of the Bermuda Hospitals Board, says: “Wellness is a driving strategy for BHB as we are determined to help Bermuda build a healthier future.

“BHB experts in education and health will be attending the Expo to talk to visitors about improving their wellness, especially when it comes to heart health.

“We have enhanced our hospital services in this area as it is the number one cause of death for both men and women in Bermuda. But our overarching goal is to prevent heart disease, not just treat it, and the Argus Healthy Living Expo is a great opportunity for the community to have access to our cardiac, dietary and rehab experts to talk about their health and wellness.”
