Videos: Miss Bermuda Contestant Introductions

June 4, 2012

With just over a month to go, the 2012 Miss Bermuda contestants continue to prepare for the pageant, and the chance to represent Bermuda at the 2012 Miss World Pageant in China.

Under the direction of Milika Trott Seymour, the Miss Bermuda Pageant was brought back last year after a hiatus of over a decade. Last year’s winner represented Bermuda at the 2011 Miss World Pageant in London, and the winner of 2012 Miss Bermuda Pageant will travel to Ordos, Inner Mongolia, China to compete in Miss World.

There are eight competitors vying for the chance to be crowned Miss Bermuda 2012; Deshona Perinchief, Lene Hypolite, Chelsy Furtado, Dwanae Simons, Dashunte Furbert, Shannon Ingram, Rochelle Minors and Crystal Lyn.

We caught up with the contestants last night at the swimsuit photo shoot, and the videos below show seven of the eight contestants briefly introducing themselves, with the remaining contestant [Miss Sandys Rochelle Minors] still abroad in school.

Miss Crystal Lyn representing Southampton:

Miss Chelsy Furtado representing Pembroke:

Miss Dwanae Simons representing Smiths:

Miss Lene Hypolite representing Devonshire:

  1. A girl says:

Ladies, you are beautiful but please tone down the make-up!

    • hmm says:

It was a photo shoot. I don’t think they put the makeup on themselves. I would agree. Though that they seem a bit overdone.

As far as the introductions are concerned though, I think they spoke well and will represent very well!

    • Ditto says:

Just sitting here thinking the same thing

  2. Jim Bean says:

    The makeup is TERRIBLE!!!!!

  3. shawn says:

yes ,,cute. tho there is a disturbing trend in the modeling world with this over the top/clown makeup. to all makeup artists, magazines, photographers could we put a stop to this.especialy for my beautiful african queens its not needed at all

  4. K.T.B. says:

Well done ladies! Well spoken and beautiful, you should all be proud of yourselves. Keep up the good work!

  5. SS says:

I have to agree the makeup does nothing for them.
    The interviews were well done.
Good luck to all of them.

  6. WinterSun says:

    Great poise Ladies!

Was this the same make-up artist used for the first photo shoot? I don’t think so, cause their make-up in the BERNEWS May14th article was perfect….what happened now?

Get rid of that make-up stylist/application, cause when you look back at their previous photo shoot, this make-up shown in today’s shoot does these beautiful ladies no justice! They are so elegant and deserve much better…

Keep going girls, and do Bermuda proud!

  7. knowPublic says:

    Good luck to you all!

  8. SeaSide says:

Ladies I think the makeup is perfect! You are all beautiful so disregard all the negative comments. Most people don’t have a clue about makeup, lighting, dramatic makeup and day makeup…it’s obvious reading the comments. Kep up the good work photographers, makeup artist and fashion models people who are into that stuff love it and know the difference.

    • What Next says:

Did YOU see what TJ said REAL BEAUTY needs no cover up and i agree. They look like they where PLASTERED with makeup.

  9. TJ says:

OMG the make up is too much… Real beauty needs no cover up, ladies even though you may not be responsible for putting on the heavy make up you can control how much is put on your face. Good luck to you all!

  10. Not impressed says:

Makeup is needed for photoshoots but if this was a trained professional makeup artist they wouldn’t have looked the way they did. A trained makeup artist wouldn’t use the same colors on every girl and would know where to place the makeup according to the features of the model. What a shame…

  11. Layers and Layers says:

Was there a charge by the once for the makeup cause it was way over the top…

  12. Ann says:

FYI – The make up was not done on their own. They had a make up artist. Disregard what they look like and focus on what is said and how they present themselves. We know they are beautiful regardles if the make up is off a bit. Ladies keep up the good work!

  13. Confused says:

Is Miss Deshona Perinchief representing Warwick a Bermudian?

  14. Lola says:

Farrrrr too much make-up, and it doesn’t suit all the girls. I’ve seen a few in real life, and usually look better than they do here! Fire the make-up artist! Good luck to everyone!

  15. Bewildered says:

The girls look fine, apart from the makeup and hair, as entries for the Miss Bermuda Pageant, but save the money and drop the trip to Miss World. None have given any indication that they entered Miss Bermuda to be a contestant at Miss World which requires an entirely different level and requirement, so just improve yourselves and contribute to the local community.

  16. I See you Looking says:

These young ladies are indeed beautiful, well poised and articulate.

I have to agree with the majority regarding the makeup.

The eye makeup is too dramatic and theatrical for a day shoot and would look fine for an evening shoot or during the competition.

  17. Ann says:

At Bewildered, You are a negative person and give these beautiful girls a negative impact. You probably dont even know majority of them or either of them. So negative of you to comment that none of them would make the Miss world. Would be a heck of a shock to you if one of them were to make it thru just to make you shut up! But to the BEAUTIFUL ladies hold your heads up high and think possitive not like some of these people with their negative comments.

    Good Luck Ladies!

    • Bewildered says:

      Ann,
It is stated above that the winner will travel to Miss World, so I don’t understand your comment. What I am saying is that the rationale and cost of going to Miss World, probably largely paid by the Department of Tourism, is not a prudent use of taxpayers money.

  18. not nit picking! says:

tThis is a good group of young ladies. I do not believe in nit picking however, one could not enjoy this clip without stating the obvious. The application of the makeup was not becoming of these ladies. Bermudian women black and white both locally and abroad, have always been very concervative with the application of make up. Unlike many places most women in Bermuda do not over indulge with the cosmetics. So when one sees these ladies with so much make up on their faces, it would be dumb not to comment on the elephant in the room.

Please understand those who run the pagent are reading, and if they are smart, the next time you see these young ladies, they will be a better application of makeup.

When we have programs that the community invest their time, talent, resources into Promoters, planners, and organizers, owe the participants, their families a first class production. It is sad to say but based on these images this is not a good representation of these young ladies. I know most of them, and quite frankly this did nothing for them.

Sometimes we must speak truth, and the truth is, the Pagent organizers must do better with their public representation of these girls. They in this instance have hurt the Pagent brand and the girls personal brand.

  19. SMH says:

Why are ppl always got to be negitive?? If you dont have nothing nice to say dont say it at all.

    • Leg says:

If you enter such a contest that requires judging then don’t be surprised if people judge!

  20. Bermy girl says:

Ladies, i applaud you for having the courage to go into the contest. You are all absolutely courageous and entering this pageant will take you a long way with regard to your self confidence. However, i do agree that the make up is too much, ive been an international stage, and i would say that is way too much. You all are beautiful, and good luck to each and everyone of you.

  21. letshaveit says:

Lene, Shannon and Chelsey are the only 3 who atually sounds like they are educated.

  22. Bermy's Finest says:

Go Lene!!! And yes Shannon, Chelsey and Lene are the only educated well rounded ones. They are all beautiful but the islands representative should be able to articulate herself and respresent young Bermuda in a educated manner…good luck to all….but thats my opinion.

  23. Honesty says:

Make Up-Caked Up. Damn. go easy. Chelsy definitely the baddest one. Last name sounds portuguese…Foreigner everyone, i know how bermudians like to wish bad on all the foreigners so don’t be surprised if you see the hate.

  24. john says:

    damn! really bermuda?
    best u got?

  25. Tashi says:

To Honesty, Chelsy is no foreigner, she is a Bermudian with Portuguese back ground.
:) GO CHELSY!! KEEP YOUR HEAD UP HIGH

  26. SMS says:

These ladies are pretty. But I don’t think any of them will even make it to the first cut, but I wish them luck anyway

  27. Prayerful says:

Is it a requirement that contestants be Bermudian born?

I do think that the makeup needs some adjustment!

  28. Shame on you Negative Bemrudians says:

It’s a shame that the only thing you people are posting is negative comments. If you go back and read the article before the videos you will see that it says “We caught up with the contestants LAST NIGHT at the swimsuit photo shoot” so it’s obvious that the make up was done for a night time shoot and Bernews mostlikely caught up with them before the pictures were taken. Instead of being negative, you all should be encouraging these young ladies because it takes a lot of courage to participate in a competition like this. There will always be someone trying to pull you down when they dont want to see you succeed, so ladies don’t let the negativity get to you. All of you ladies are beautiful in your own way and I wish you all the best of luck! s/n: All you people making negative comments will be the ones cheering on Miss. Bermuda when she goes onto Miss. World in China! :)

  29. john.b says:

none of them,,sorry just a young mans thought

  30. Professional MakeUp Artist says:

I would have to agree on alot of the comments posted. The girls are beautiful. The makeup for this shoot does not agree it’s more night/ dramatic makeup. Most contestants in a beauty pagent have more natural flawless makeup. I guess whoever done this makeup is totally not qualified and is doing it for fun or at a cheaper price!!!!

  31. Always Watching says:

These girls need more than makeup hahahahahahahaha

  32. Tiptoes says:

Wow!!!! I found out who the makeup artist is! She did my cousins wedding, the wedding was during the day and the maids and bride looked flawless. I was told she is a certified trained pro makeup artist but my guess is that the lighting was poor when they took the pics because I have seen some of her work and she is good. I did read up top that it was a night shoot, so maybe this is what they told her hence the heavy makeup. I am sure Milika Seymore will not hire an amature because she is into perfection and her name is attached to this. I feels sorry for the makeup artist because these comments are cruel. Well I guess it comes with this type of business, you can’t please everyone. Keep your head up makeup artist I have seen your work and you are HOTT girl!
