Roy Allan Burch’s New Bermuda Record Confirmed

August 3, 2012

Bermudian swimmer Roy-Allan Burch powered to victory in his 50m freestyle heat yesterday [Aug 1] in the Olympics, with his time shattering the Bermuda national record.

He clocked a time of 22:47, which bested the previous time of 22.69 set by Burch himself at the World Championships in China in July 2011.

This time saw him fall just short of making the semi-finals but good enough to place 24th overall, a substantial improvement upon the 2008 Olympics where he placed 60th in the 100m freestyle.

Burch  thanked everyone on his Facebook page, and ended his post with “Rio?”. As the 2016 Olympics will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, it appears the 26-year-old swimmer is considering aiming for one more Olympic appearance.
