Premier’s Condolences: Passing Of Dr Brimmer
Today [Oct 10] Premier Paula Cox extended her sincere condolences to the wife and daughter of the late Dr. Andrew F. Brimmer.
Dr. Brimmer was the Principal Economic Policy Advisor to the Ministry of Finance from 1999 to the present. Engaged under the first PLP Minister of Finance, the late Eugene Cox, Dr. Brimmer continued his appointment under the current Minister of Finance until his passing.
Dr. Brimmer was involved in a number of projects for the Ministry and was recently appointed to chair the Bermuda Deposit Insurance Corporation.
On learning of his passing, Premier Cox said, “This certainly has affected me in both a professional and personal way. Dr. Brimmer had become family through his relationship with my father, and ultimately became a professional colleague through his commitment to our Government and its people.
“His firm and steady friendship with the first PLP Minister of Finance revealed they were as much friends as compatriots and champions for Bermuda’s evolution as a premier financial services jurisdiction.
“Dr. Brimmer was a wonderful friend to the Secretary to the Cabinet. The last discussion held was when the Secretary advised him that we were going to Qatar. He responded that he would speak with us on our return and wished us all the best. He was one who believed in Bermuda and was proud of what we had achieved as a Government.
“I have had the opportunity to speak briefly with his wife, Mrs. Doris Brimmer, and have extended to her our gratitude for his service to the country. We conveyed our warm and heartfelt condolences at her loss and noted that Dr. Brimmer was highly rated and warmly regarded by us. I reminded her that he was an ardent champion of Bermuda and he soldiered on and did so much stellar work on our behalf.”
The Premier concluded, “Although he can be succeeded, his shoes cannot be filled; Dr. Andrew Brimmer will be sorely missed.”
This is indeed a sad note.
My condolences are also extended to Dr. Brimmer’s family.
To all posters, please be sensitive with any comments. Dr. Brimmer has truly been an economic champion for Bermuda as noted and a consummate gentleman, which can be attested to by all of the saff at the Ministry of Finance.
‘an economic champion for Bermuda’- I doubt it..ever since he arrived here the economy has worsened
Just because Dr. Brimmer was an advisor to the Ministry of Finance doesn’t mean they took his advice. perhaps if they had all the time we wouldn’t be in the mess we are.
Dr. Brimmer was a towering intellect and a man of great character. it is a shame that we didnt take the full value of all his recommendations.
A real loss.
