Tyrone Smith Running For TFAA Office

Bermuda national long jump record holderand 2012 London Olympic finalist Tyrone Smith is running for a board of directors position in the Track and Field Athletes Association.

At their Annual Meeting on November 30, 2012 in Daytona, Florida, the TFAA members will be electing board members for the next two-year term. There are seven positions available.

Smith has a desire to represent the Caribbean on the board and to ensure the interest of its athletes are also promoted on the international stage. He believes this organization under the correct guidance will form into a Union for Track and Field athletes, A union that he believes is crucial to the future of the sport.

A TFAA board member’s basic responsibility is to stay current on issues affecting elite track and field athletes, attend conference calls held by the TFAA board of directors, assist with the short- and long- term strategy of the association, help organize events, utilize your network and resources to benefit the TFAA and its initiatives, ensure the bylaws are adhered to, communicate with other athletes, communicate with sponsors, agents, and governing bodies, communicate with TFAA members, help develop fundraising efforts and revenue streams, drive membership, and other tasks necessary to achieve our objectives.

The Track and Field Athletes Association (TFAA) is a 501(c)(4) organization formed to support the rights and interests of professional track and field athletes. Numerous national and international organizations are chartered to advance and promote the sport of track and field. Unfortunately none of these organizations represent the collective interests of the elite, professional athletes that make the sport viable.
