Man Admits Stealing Three Hams From Lindos

January 8, 2013

A 38-year-old man appeared in Magistrates Court today [Jan 8] and admitted stealing three hams — valued at $174 — from Lindo’s in Warwick. Garrick Williams worked at the store at the time he was caught stealing the hams on 14 December 2012.

The store manager suspected Mr Williams of stealing, confronted him, and found the three hams in his bag. He was arrested at that time, and appeared in Court today where Senior Magistrate Archie Warner handed down a $500 fine.

  2. tricks are for kids says:

Hams were quite pricey at Lindos this year BUT that does not give you the right to steal…..Groceries are already expensive at Lindos with out you giving them cause to raise their prices even more….

    • Bda Nanny says:

its not a crime to steal to eat

      • 1minute says:

Stealing for any reason is a crime. You do not need to steal to eat. There are lots of food banks handing out food to those in need.

Er, yes it is. I hope you aren’t a parent!

      • inmates are always being watched but is it fair that some have a blind eye watching them says:

It is a crime to steal stealing is stealing yes it’s unfortunate that food is expensive but he worked at Lindo’s and I’m sure workers gets a discount and 3hams please that’s all he stole and I’m sure he was practicing the Muslim religion go figure. Stop making excuses for him there was no reason for the theft from people why gave him a job and chance

      • James Rego says:

The guy is a Muslim stealing HAM?????

  3. Tya Wills says:

Lindos prices are too high but hey as long as people continue to buy the goods they won’t lower them #foodforthought

    • tricks are for kids says:

@ Tya I agree…..can’t say that they DON’T make money though …any given day the parking lot is full……..

      • Floyd says:

the fact that they do not have to open on a sunday is proof to me that they “make enuf money”

        • RawOnion says:

Lindos has dedicated customers because of the service and the store its self. Its not really more expensive than any of the other stores however, I will pay the extra few cents on some items for freshness and quality. Oh and they chose not to open on Sunday because they consider Sundays a family day and that it wouldnt increase customers just stretch them into shopping a different day.

  6. inmates are always being watched but is it fair that some have a blind eye watching them says:

Let’s see if this man gets the same treatment as all inmates who are out on parole have gotten which is recalled back to finish his time.he was given a chance of employment and stolen from the company Will this put a bad taste in that company or any other companies for given ex inmates or inmates who are out on parole a chance to re-build their life’s in a positive manner. Some inmates or any one person out on parole who think they can out smart the parole board need justice to be severed fair this crime is the most dishonest and breech against the parole and needs justice to be handed down. For those families out there that had someone recalled back to prison do you think it’s fair that this man just pay a $500 fine and continue on with his life outside of prison remember he was convicted of bringing drugs into this island first mistake now he was given a chance and he spit on that what the government and correction department is trying to put across to us Bermudians.

    • RawOnion says:

too bad the PLP still isn’t in power or he would have been assured a job with his criminal record.

  7. me says:

$500 fine for stealing hams worth $174. Not nearly enough. He only needs to get away with it 3 times to make a profit. I wonder if he’d already stolen more than $500-worth…………….

  8. Y-Gurl says:

Were the hams injured in this incident, and did the hams have to appear in court?

    • Hi C says:

Yawn…Y-Gurl you are so boring. How do you harm something that is already dead. Zzzzz

      • Sapphire says:

@Hi C: You REALLY need to lighten up and stop taking everything so literally…of course the hams are dead, we all know that. You accuse Y-Gurl of being boring, yet you are incredibly anal which is 100 times worse!!!

        • Hi C says:

  12. polly says:

Actually Lindo’s prices are lower than MarketPlace prices by far!! Do a price check and you’ll see, trust me!

    • Come Correct says:

I agree and less expensive than some items at Arnolds. I’ll buy cold cuts almost anywhere but when I go for my choice cuts of meat, Lindos is the place. I hear Supermart is good for that too. Before anyone thinks I’m a stuck up pric, I’ll give away one of my secrets. Beef wise, you have a choice from minute steaks up to tenderloin, tenderloin being the absolute best cut IMO. I get a tenderloin when I feel special, which isn’t very often lol. Buy a london broil, $20 and you can feed 5 from a mediocre cut of meat. Grilled to your liking and sliced thin on an angle and you’ll think you just got a raise. Eat well in the recession my friends. Not a red meat fan? Hit me up for a sinful stuffed pork loin, mercy! Beer can feral chicken coming soon lol.

      • Hi C says:

You eat well for somebody without a job bro!!!

        • Come Correct says:

Know that! Nothing better than the taste of doing something for yourself. The other day I cooked a london broil that fed 7 people, 2lbs of meat. In a restaurant that would cost you around $30 a SERVING. 30×7=210… That’s roughly (minus sides) $190 profit for a business. When I was in Thailand I learned how their people cooked to stretch meals out because they can’t afford much. On this little island we are blessed and should be able to do more with more. You think they buy london broils in Thailand? Lol um no. I literally watched them slaughter a feral chicken, I ate some and it was weeelllll. Believe me when I tell you we could learn a thing or two from their culture and others like them. Let’s be real, 3 hams… All he’s missing is a few loafs of bread and 5000 people. He wasn’t trying to feed his fam, thats straight greedy. Store manager suspected him of stealing? Well that tells me the manager had a reason to think that and it may not have been his first time. He may well have been a Robin hood, who really knows. Bottom line is you don’t need tenderloin to survive, I’ll cook you minute steaks that melt in your mouth. Knowledge is power my friend in more ways than we think…. Ladies, I’m single, I’m a virgo, I like long walks on the beach, I cook, do hard labour, I don’t clean or paint toe nails ;) . Lol ima change my name to cook correct.

  13. What Do You THink says:

Ham & Lamb are not cheap at all… and a HAM stealing Ham.. LMAO

  14. Imagine the rest that may have hitched a ride like those 3 little pigs did!!!!! BUT never went for the ride.
And he is the one of many whom say they don’t eat pork………n maybe he doesn’t but the evidence indicates there is that possibility he does. Oink! Oink! Oink” hurray u gotta pay n this sale has a record. “Theft”……..!!!!!

Smh i am disgusted because the guy worked at lindos like how u mean you stealing not like u sampled a grape it was hams not 1 but 3 lmbwo what a stupid person … i guess d butcha got chopped

    • Sapphire says:

I’d like to know how this guy is out of prison, anyway. He was sentenced in 2007 to 14 years in prison, and has clearly done less than five years of that sentence-that’s ridiculous! They are letting people out of prison way too early!

There’s a guy who was sentenced in Nov. 2010 to 12 years for shooting up a store on Court Street-he is now on day release…I’ve seen him with my own eyes working up in Dockyard! What is up with that? So he’s going to be released soon after doing two years of a 12 year sentence/!

I hate to bring up politics, but I blame the PLP. There clearly isn’t enough money there to keep these prisoners where they belong and so they get sprung early! Where is the deterrent? People are going to take the chance of committing crimes if they know they’ll only do a tenth of their sentence!!!

  17. PureNiceNess says:

And wait lol ppl loosing sight of the point of the article its not about lindos and theit prices its about a criminal who was given a chance … lol … he hung himself … lindos is the victim but if these magistrates give slight sentences chooks bie d average joe blow could walk out with no fine ! And free hams lol

    • tricks are for kids says:

Its not about politics either but that topic keeps coming in to play. .

  18. it's just a lame says:

again ,,,reading this story people are missing the real point,,he was giving a chance 1 and 2 why would he need to steal 3 hams ,,,

  19. MsFedUpWithDisNonesense says:

whats d verdict on d dam snatcha cuz other cases are coming up for evadin parole checkins, killing dogs, touching kids … and the ham case gets left to the dust …. i want a follow up on this because as a matter of public interest … hams need justice dammit … if oen man steals a ham what makes d nex man think he cant still a turkey … flip d whole meat section be creeping out the shop and we hard working citizens be forced to be vegetarians and junkfood addicts! Justice for the ham! lol
