Furbert: ‘PLP Laid Strong Foundation In Tourism’

April 10, 2013

Shadow Minister for Tourism Wayne Furbert responded to the recent announcement by Minister of Tourism Development and Transport Shawn Crockwell, saying the “OBA has finally admitted that the PLP plan was working.”

Mr. Furbert said, “The Progressive Labor Party laid a strong foundation in tourism which allowed the One Bermuda Alliance to successfully move forward with ideas to revitalize this long stagnant, critical industry.

“From the revamped marketing theme, ‘So Much More’, the establishment of a Tourism Board with authority to promote and market Bermuda and most importantly, the National Tourism Plan; much of the heavy lifting has been done already and now is the time for results.”

Mr. Furbert added, “I took note of Minister Crockwell’s comment and I quote, ‘We are optimistic that the ‘So Much More’ campaign is one that will continue to help drive business. In looking at the campaign’s impact since it was introduced in August, we saw load factors increase every month – a positive sign that our message is getting through.’

“With these words, the OBA has finally admitted that the PLP plan was working. I am delighted that the OBA is willing to acknowledge that there were good things produced under the PLP and their willingness to move forward with this plan is truly in the best interest of Bermuda. For this we thank them,” concluded Mr Furbert.

    • Raymond Ray says:

Word! but so what Watne, the P.L.P. did do something or a few things correct, it still don’t make them angels. They’d done far more things wrongs in the time in “control of the purse strings” So, I/we thank them for the good done but, now stop being a stick in the wheel and become a spoke in the wheel by helping Bermuda / us all, to get out from under the rut the P.L.P. has put us all in…

  2. Bob says:

Sit down Wayne.. BTW how’s that recording contract going?

  3. Argosy says:

….yeah, right. We’re seeing lots of visitors from China & India and I heard Hugh Heffner’s sending them here too.

    • Family Man says:

And some of the previous visitors from Detroit are now prohibited from leaving the jurisdiction.

  4. Opressed says:

The cruise ships must have brought in a load of very potent stuff.

  5. Um Um Like says:

You’re full of it Furby Flopper! I suppose a year from now if tourism doesn’t pick up “much more”, then you’ll be saying it’s the OBA’s fault!

  6. Sorry Sir says:

PLP Laid strong foundation of Debt.

  7. Elvis must now leave the building says:

Dear Honorable MP JP Wayne Furbert,

With the utmost respect, the time has come for you to now leave public life and hand the reigns of Constituency Number 6, Hamilton Parish West over to someone who is better suited and more relevant for the choppy waters ahead of us.

We know you miss the business class travel, technical officers, Billy, Jasmine and all that good stuff, anyone would miss free money and no work.

Please give Shawn Crockwell your blessing and commend him since you actually helped bring him in to politics many years ago pre the UBP Secret Report, but please, please I am pleading MP Furbert, please stop speaking publicly and focus on your family life and retirement, if you dont leave gracefully the Branch will remove your forcefully as another I am from the hills of hamilton parish and my daddy told me vote ubp speech is the kind of dumbing down that has kept hamilton parish without decent amenities for the past 30 years

    MP Furbert please just go.

      • rock watcher says:

  8. SoMuchMore says:

FlipFlop, you where better quiet but if the OBA admits things and apologizes I hope the PLP can too. Now shall we start?

  9. Zombie Apocalypse says:

Was he “in his mother’s wound” when he laid this strong foundation?

And I thought all the Furbert-era PLP ideas had been stolen from the UBP? Is the PLP really tellling us they like the old UBP tourism plans? Interesting.

    • Wrong! says:

Do not bring peoples mother’s in to this comment site Zombie Apocalypse. 2 wrongs don’t make it right.

  10. Elizabeth Von Trumparani says:

Is there anyone anywhere at all interested in anything this man has to say? His Mum maybe?

  11. Bermuda boy says:

    FLIP FLOP Furbert….YOU LAID NOTHING.

  12. Kim Smith says:

The ego is a fascinating phenomenon.

  13. Navin Johnson says:

They cannot help themselves and must see their name and face in print especially this clown……the foundation was so strong Wayne that the numbers kept going down unless you selected a particular week to release a good number…you are irrelevant and should just collect your check as always albeit lower than it was…..retire and go away as your services ,voice and opinions are no longer required.

  14. ... says:

‘PLP Laid Strong Foundation In Tourism’….but then realized they had no idea how to budget themselves and therefore could not follow through….

  15. swing voter says:

sorry to add to the negative comments, but listening to this guy during house debates is an embarassment to Hamilton Parish. Although the candidate I supported was unsucessful, at least the PLP alternative has a fairly good handle on the queens english and she even seldom tows the line for the sake of it.

  16. so much.. huh??? says:

Come On People!!.. Sing It With MEEEE!!!.. ‘hit the road jack, and don’t you come back no more, no more, no more..’ (Pun Intended)

  17. SPEECHLESS JONES says:

IT IS MOST URKING TO HEAR MR.CROCKWELL TALK…OMG….WHY TO SOME BLACK BERMUDIAN MEN ESPCIALLY THOSE IN THE OBDA THINK THEY HAVE TO TALK AND WALK LIKE THEY WANNA BE OTHER THAN A BERMUDIAN?!?!?

SOME GUYS GO TO COLLEGE AND COME BACK SPEAKING SO EFFIN WEIRD,WHY IS THAT?!?!?

THE OLD UBP GUARD CONTINUE TO SAY BERMUDER IN STEAD OF BERMUDA…OGGGHHH

LAAAD ME CAAAN TEK IT NAW MOOOR!!

    • swing voter says:

gurl u got issues. I guess he’ll be more appealing if he spoke like a herb smoking retard with his pants sagging like he took a dump in them

    • Common Sense says:

I guess SPEECHLESS JONES must have hated listening to Julian Hall speaking. No-one ever spoke more like a true blue well educated Englishman than Julian. Or does it matter which political party you belong to?

  18. Thief says:

The plan is excellent and was completed almost a year ago. The OBA were the first to read it and realize it is more than a PowerPoint presentation!

  19. Y-Gurl says:

Wayne the only thing you laid was a trail of bull$!t that only you ever believed, you are part of the reason the PLP was voted out and really we are tired, very tired of listening to your smug rhetoric and verse, go back to selling coffee and stay out of the political scene please.

    • Chuckling says:

I would bet all you IMPs couldn’t get enough of him when he was doing your bidding in the UBP. Most days you people are the first to use words like “flip flop” and “hypocrites”. I have seen nothing but hypocrisy from all you ex U-bites turned O-bites on this one.

  20. jt says:

The sooner drug testing is required the better. What else can explain the lunacy eminating from some of our politicians?

    • Herbalist says:

You might want to leave drug testing out of this, since the current Minister of Tourism Crockwell went to prison for stealing and selling drugs. Sorry to say this, but it wasn’t weed which 60% or more of Bermuda’s population already smokes.

  21. Repossession says:

If you keep making these silly statements to provoke the OBA they will call your mortgage mate, time to start signing Happy Bojangles again and stop trying to take credit for something that the Department of Tourism Directors and FuseIdeas created

why are Politicians so dang lie mate?

Hang on a minute, I just figured why Flip Flop joined the PLP, to avoid his mortgage note being called as the bank would have had negative press to call the mortgage of a PLP minister

    • True words from a race Monger says:

      @Repossession

Just like the ubp.oba did to all blacks when they spoke up hmmm. Re called their mortgage. It was wrong back then and it would be wrong today. Repossession you must be part of that racist group that did this! Somethings never change but a name.

  22. Victor says:

Actually, the PLP managed, whether by ignorance, neglect or on purpose – I imagine some combination of all three – to destroy vast amounts of tourist infrastructure and good will. It was all about “pay to play” and that perverse mentality permeated – so we get messed around by the Bazarians and Kerwins of this world.

  23. Really says:

Yes u go minister moonwalker ” billy jean is not my lova owhhhhhhhhhh”

  24. Plank 44 says:

Tell the drug theft minister to take a back seat

  25. Xman says:

The PLP adpted and inherited a lot of ideas and concepts from the former UBP, The OBA has to
keep some of the ideas of the PLP.it’s as realistic as that.
Old saying: each one teach one”
Radical Change and a full overhaul of the Tourist Industry is going to take a hell of a lot of money – somthing BERMUDA does not have right now.- because the PLP’s poor financial management ,extravagance and lack of vision.
Mr Furbert is just making noise.- he likes being noticed.

  26. Vulpes says:

Furb – Is Bailey’s Bay still listening to you? If so, they must be the only ones. Trust you have noticed that the job of Shadow Minister does not pay any extra – so you might as well keep quiet.
