Meet Miss Warwick: Alexandra McMartin

June 18, 2013

In the sixth of a series of profiles of contestants, Bernews today spotlights Alexandra McMartin who is representing Warwick Parish in the Miss Bermuda Pageant, which will be held on June 23rd.

Miss McMartin graduated from the IB program at BHS last school year. She is currently studying Business Communications at Brock University in Canada, and working at Calypso as a sales assistant for the summer.

The 18-year-old has been involved with volunteer work throughout high school at the National Trust and Red Cross. “Throughout my school years in Bermuda, I enjoyed sports and was part of the swim team and cross country team”, Miss McMartin said.

“I have competed in horse riding and have also completed the Duke of Edinburgh bronze and silver awards. I was also apart of the annual Shakespeare festival in 2012 with my theatre class as well as in school productions.

“I really enjoyed participating in productions as well as in my theatre class as they have taught me skills that will help in the pageant. I have done a few minor modelling jobs in the past and hoping there will be more opportunities in the future”.

Asked why she entered the Miss Bermuda contest, Ms McMartin said, “I entered the Miss Bermuda Pageant as I felt generally it is a good experience and oppurtunity for young ladies to embrace who they are and the community they are a part of.

“Also, I feel that it is a great stepping stone to opportunities by gaining confidence to seize those oppurtunities. I believe that the pageant provides a forum to develop these interpersonal skills which will help us all later in life.

“The experience I have enjoyed the most so far would be meeting all the contestants and doing all the team building activities such as when we went to the Outward Bound course. I think these activities have brought us all closer together.

“I would like to thank my parents for encouraging me to strive for my best in things I chose to do, such as the pageant.

“I also would like to say thank you to one of my closest friends, Sierrah Raynor, who encouraged me to enter when I was nervous to do so. I thank her for that as I have truly enjoyed this experience.

“I am looking forward to the night of the pageant [June 23rd] where I hope to see most of you as it will be a fun and entertaining evening and, of course, we would all love the support!”

The 2013 Miss Bermuda Pageant is scheduled to take place Sunday June 23rd, at the Fairmont Southampton Hotel where reigning queen Rochelle Minors will crown her successor. Tickets are on sale now here on bdatix.bm, with ticket prices starting from $65. View all our Miss Bermuda coverage here.
