Bermuda Goes Undefeated, Advances To Semis

ysoc130820The Bermuda U/15 Football Team have advanced to the semi finals in the CONCACAF Championships, after they cruised past St. Maarten 5-0 last night [Aug 20] to record their 5th consecutive victory.

The Bermuda starting line-up was Yanai Smith-Davis, Jecoa Thomas, Quinn Outerbridge, Vance Wall-Brown, Oneko Lowe, Jacob Greene, Judah Chapman, Travis Boyes, Justin Bell, Knory Scott and Aaron Burgess.

Bermuda went into their final group game feeling confident, knowing that a draw or a victory would send them to the semi-finals.

Bermuda went in front in the 6th minute when Aaron Burgess intercepted a bad goal kick and slipped a quick ball to Travis Boyles who made no mistake from six yards out.

In the 27th minute Bermuda doubled their lead, when Knory Scott got a ball on the edge of the box where he drew several defenders before slipping the ball into Judah Chapman’s path as he blasted a unstoppable shot.

Two minutes into the second half Burgess received a pass from Oneko Lowe on the left, and planted his shot low to the keepers left making the score 3 – 0.

In the 53rd minute Scott scored from a long range shot, and two minutes later Bermuda scored their final goal of the game as Lowe planted an unstoppable shot low in the far post to make the final score 5 – 0.

Bermuda finished on top of the table of Group A, having gone undefeated in their five games, recording victories over the Bahamas, the US Virgin Islands, the Cayman IslandsAruba and St Maarten.

Bermuda will now advance to the CONCACAF Semi-Finals, which will take place this coming Friday [Aug 23]. As the winners of Group A, they will take on the winners of Group B, which looks like it will be Guatemala. You can view the full schedule here [PDF].

The CONCACAF tournament has seen teams from 23 member associations take part, including Antigua & Barbuda, Aruba, the Bahamas, Belize, Bermuda, the Cayman Islands, Curacao, El Salvador, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Martinique, Puerto Rico, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Lucia, Saint Martin, St. Maarten, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, Trinidad & Tobago and the US Virgin Islands.

    congrats to Bermuda but they were lucky to be in the easiest group. they didn’t have to face, Honduras, el Salvador Jamaica, ect… i wish them all the best but they will face some real competition in the next round.
