Two Teens Arrested After Eggs Thrown At Bus

October 18, 2013

[Updated] Two 15 year old students were arrested this afternoon [Oct 18] after eggs were thrown at a bus in Hamilton. The incident occurred at around 4.45pm, and resulted in the bus operators approaching the suspects.

Bystanders told Bernews the person[s] who threw the eggs tried to flee from the bus operators on foot, dropping their supply of eggs as they ran. Two brown bags with broken eggs were visible on the sidewalk.

The polices subsequently attended the scene and arrested two 15 year old male students.

A police spokesperson said, “Around 4:45pm on Friday, October 18th police officers were on foot patrol in the vicinity of the City of Hamilton bus terminal when they responded to an incident on Church Street.

Halloweens coming! Just glad it wasn’t bombs or bullets.

    • oops says:

      Rotten Puns coming…

better make an eggsample out of these youngsters!

      • lol says:

They made a real stink about nothing!

      • Jo Blo says:

If I’ve heard it once, I’ve heard it a DOZEN times…throw from the bushes, not the street!

        • Really?? says:

At Jo Blo….they shld NOT be throwing them at all from anywhere! Suppose one was hurled at you? I don’t think that wld go dwn well with you…wld it?!

      • Bradford says:

You should blame the market for SHELLING these eggs to youngsters…

        • are you serious says:

blame the market? you have to be joking.

          • Bradford says:

Blame the chicken for having these eggs…darn chickens….

      • Eggspert says:

The yolk is on you, kids.

  2. The Skink says:

Six strokes with a cedar switch followed by community service. This would involve cleaning of the said buses they allegedly assailed, along with the cleaning of the sidewalk strewn with the offending eggs.

    • Time Shall Tell says:

I like you idea, just be sure that the lashes are made in the public so others will really think twice before doing anything similar.

    • Be sure to have them wear a ‘T’ shirt that has their crime written on the front of back of shirts while doing the community service..

  3. RawOnion says:

This still goes on? I threw my share of eggs (at least mines were rotten) some 20+ years ago but never in town or during the day…..dummies. I hope they get sentenced to hand washing buses on weekends for the next 3 months.

    • Micro says:

Quite fitting, most of them can use a good scrubbing. Could even have them assist the mechanics, maybe they’ll pick up the trade and do something more constructive with their free time.

    • Soke & Mirrors? says:

I love that idea. But lets make it in town at 3:30 each day with their friends watching.

Also, can we ask that stores not sell eggs or spray paint to minors to at least make it difficult for kids.

I hope they were at least smart enough not to be dong this in their school uniforms. In my day, if you did something like that in your school uniform and in public – that meant suspension or expulsion. That would be a shame for these two. It would appear that they aren’t very smart to begin with. Mom and Dad must be proud.

    • Voter says:

I bet you’ve never had to drive a car with eggs on the windscreen, at night. Pretty scary

  4. media says:

My son was on a nearby bus and witnessed the incident! There was a large crowd of teenagers looking on in support of the boys.

  5. Just my .08 cents says:

I agree with the Skink! Make them clean the sidewalk with a toothbrush! Ending with a beating at the flag pole. Parents will attend a parenting teenage course!

    • I Don't Get It says:

I think some of you are being a bit harsh. I know as a teen we all did it (I’m talking back in the eighties). One cannot assume that they have “bad” parents because they are out throwing eggs. My friends included a pastor’s son, and I think he threw more eggs than we did LOL!!!

Having said that, I’m not saying it is acceptable behavior. It was as wrong then as it is now. I think having them clean the buses at the garage for a few months as punishment would suffice. Knowing some hard labour will come out of throwing eggs may serve as a deterrent to other kids thinking about doing the same thing.

      • Tricks are For Kids says:

        I agree,

Egg throwing (not that its right) has been going on for years, even prior to the 80′s that was mentioned above, nothing new here….hell the young boys that were arrested their parents probably did the same thing. To call for them to be “beat” in public is a bit excessive.  I think the humiliation of being arrested and having their parents called plus the school suspension they will face because they were in school uniform will suffice. …

      • Sandy Bottom says:

No, we didn’t “all do it”. Plenty if kids don’t do it.

The ones that do should be rounded up and charged with criminal damage or assault.

        • Joy says:

Get off ya high horse Sandy Bottom. Even if you didn’t do ‘it’, you certainly did something else. Maybe you’re so old you can’t think back to when you were a teenager, but unless you were the only perfect kid on the planet, I’m sure you did something wrong at one point or another.

        • Joy says:

  6. Karma says:

My car got h it last year…except that the little $*** used hard-boiled eggs. They’re VERY lucky I didn’t stop. I’d have handed out punishment that their parents obviously never used.

  7. 2013 says:

Oh dear! Yup make em wash busses! I dare a kid throw one at me. They will be in the missing ads the next day

  8. Nuffin but da Truth says:

throw eggs at me ya little bastards and I’ll crack ya a****!

  9. mixitup says:

Who gets caught egging a bus – EPIC FAIL!! (I never got caught) lol

  10. Forest says:

Many years ago, the so good do’ers said we can’t hit our kids, but they can hit you. What will happen to these louts who threw the eggs? A tap on the wrist. Thats all. Agree with the earlier replies make them work their butts off.

  11. Really?? says:

These children need to quit doing this BS! No one shld be throwing anything (eggs, stones, tomatoes etc.) at any vehicle or anyone. Suppose one of the objects hit someone in their eye and they loose their sight or their eye(s) get severely damaged. This is not funny and is very dangerous.

Punishment: When they’re caught, stand them all in a line where everyone can see them and throw eggs back at them, then give them a right royal cut a**! Betcha they’ll be so embarrassed they’ll think twice about doing it again.

Parents need to supervise their children and teach them right from wrong.

Let one hit me in passing! They won’t like the outcome…..trust meeeee!!!!!!

    • I Don't Get It says:

STOP blaming the parents!!! You can teach your kids right from wrong all you want, yet they get around their peers and want to show off and do dumb things. Think back to when you were a teen…did YOU do anything silly, reckless or irresponsible? Of course…we ALL did!!!!

Before I get jumped on, as I stated earlier I do believe they should be punished for their deeds. However, unlike some of the adults here, I remember what it was like to be a dumb kid who did dumb things. I don’t think we should take them to the gallows and hang them!!!

It’s also interesting how some people are saying if their car was egged, they would do this or that to the perps. That means you (as an adult) would be breaking the law yourself!!! It is ILLEGAL to hurt or beat somebody for egging your car- the proper procedure is to call the police and let them handle it.

      • Kaprice says:

Exactly! !! How many times do we try to get away with something. And we know better! !! Like I also commented stop assuming all parents aren’t doing anything! Many are raised to make good choices. Choices! I guess it is ok for some people in power to do whatever they want with other people’s money for example. Where is the suggestion to publicly flog them? And we all know this is only one of many examples.

      • Sandy Bottom says:

What parents anyway? Aren’t these kds mainly being dragged up by grandparents?

  12. Truth is killin' me... says:

I was driving my car along Harbor Road around 11pm 3 years ago after knocking off from work around Halloween. Heard 2 thuds hit my car and stopped by the boat yard nearly crashing my car. Some kids ran up into the bushes and I saw splattered oranges on the ground. Dents on my door panel. I bet these kids lived in the area. Called the cops. Nobody showed. Not a happy camper and if I had caught them I would have hurt somebody that night no matter what the age! This is not innocent child’s play!!!

  13. Kaprice says:

@ really and @karma. I am wondering why you would assume the parents are not disciplining or supervising? I don’t believe that every single child who engages in this sort of behavior doesn’t receive discipline or support from home. It should deter them, yes. A lot if us do things that we know we should not do and our parents could say they raised us better. Even as simpke as putting an item back in the right shelf if you changed your mind. I am just saying we should not assume that no discipline or interest takes place. At the end they are going to do what they want with hopes of not getting caught. Just lije many adults. Hopefully this is the last time. To the egg throwers of the 80′s… don’t let me catch you now!!!!!!!!

  14. UncleSam says:

Decriminalize the Eggs before they ruin another young mans life with an arrest record..

Seriously though, I think an arrest is a little overkill on this one…. I hope the charges are dropped. This is just a youthful prank and happens in many countries. There has to be a better way to teach the youth other than police, courts and jail. Don’t get me wrong they should be washing buses as a lesson, but arrest is too much.

    • Come Correct says:

I agree, just charge the parents. The kids will get theirs after their parents are fined. I don’t see anything positive about putting kids through the system at such a young age.

      • I Don't Get It says:

Why charge the parents? That’s a great way to teach the kids a lesson. They do something wrong, Mum and Dad will take the licks.

That is why people grow up with the attitude that it is always somebody’s else’s fault and somebody else should always take the fall for them.

Punish the people that did it.

        • Come Correct says:

“The kids will get theirs after their parents are fined.” Parents are responsible for their children under 18 right? My parents would have made sure I was afraid of chickens for fear of being around another egg.

          • I Don't Get It says:

Come Correct, you sound ridiculous and I can only assume you don’t have any kids. YES, parents ARE responsible but within reason. Like I already said, parents can be as strict as a prison warden, but let kids get around their peers and that advice flies out the window. My father was strict as can be, and to be honest I was scared s**tless of him. However, that didn’t stop me from doing things I knew he would break my bones for when he wasn’t around. Most of these ‘adventures’ took place walking home from school while he was hard at work to support his family. And like I also said, one of my partners in crime was our minister’s son who also had devoted, hard-working parents. I don’t think it would have been at all fair to haul our poor parents into court when they were none the wiser to our antics.

Furthermore, what punishment would a fine be other to take food out of somebody’s mouth when people are already struggling? Give them community service. I am sure spending several Saturdays working their tail off would be worse pain than their parents writing a check to the court.

            • Come Correct says:

I sound ridiculous yet you say a fine will take food off their table…They threw food against a f**** bus. Community service could be good but they’ll probably just dick around there too. Hurt the pockets and the parents will make sure it doesn’t happen again. Maybe we should stop charging speeders so they can eat, not like they hit children or anything.

              • I Don't Get It says:

@CC..Just quit why don’t you!!!. They could have bought these eggs with pocket money. Not every crime needs a fine. Community service is an option that magistrates have and its for a good reason. Thank goodness you’re not seated on the bench!!!
By your logic, what is a reasonable fine for the parents? $100? $500? $1000? How exactly does that help? All it does is put a burden on the parents. What lesson does it teach the boys?
If there was serious financial damage to the bus, then I would agree with you and let the parents pay as somebody has to, and it shouldn’t be the taxpayer. However, if the only damage was a dirty bus then let the school boys clean buses as punishment. They knew somebody would have to clean up their egg mess, so that way they’ll know what it’s like to clean up other people’s messes.
Your comparison to stop charging speeders so they can eat is a lame one. By your insane logic, don’t charge the speeders (who do the crime) charge their parents whether they were in the car or not!!!
No further debate needed, your brain cells clearly don’t function like normal people’s.

                • Come Correct says:

Why don’t I quit? Why? Because you have an alternate opinion? My brain cells don’t work? “don’t charge the speeders (who do the crime) charge their parents whether they were in the car or not!!!”. Wouldn’t that make them 18 and thus responsible for themselves? Did I insult you in any one of my previous comments? No. So go f*** yourself.

                  • SMH says:

Hey Dude, you need to take a chill pill. If you can’t handle the heat, why you in this forum with adults cursing and freaking out. How mature of you. Your mentality is as grown up as the egg throwers smh…

                    • Come Correct says:

What? I’m childish yet they started the insults…care to clarify? At what point did I freak out I don’t get it?Because I told them to f*** off? They say my logic is flawed yet I just picked apart their argument. I treat people how I’m treated but always with respect first, don’t respect me and you get the side of me seen above.

                • Sandy Bottom says:

$1,000 fne. Plus repair the damage. Good idea.

          • Former Case Worker says:

            @Come Correct.
I have to respectfully disagree with you. While you are right to a certain extent, I don’t feel this warrants a fine against the parents in this case. Parents have a duty to exercise reasonable (key word reasonable) care and control over their minor children. If a parent is grossly negligent in some fashion, then I would support them being held responsible for their child’s action. From the little information gathered in this article, I’m not convinced it applies in this case. However, without all of the facts I cannot say for certain. One thing I do know for certain, there are good children with rotten parents and the good parents with rotten children. It’s just one of those “who knows” in life. I have seen parents struggling to do their best, and the children just give them grief. Then there are parents who are so bored and disinterested, then wonder why the children are the way they are. Egg throwing? Silly, juvenile behavior that is not new. Fining the parents? It would appear a bit extreme in this case, unless they supplied the eggs and had reason to suspect the intent was to throw them at buses.

            • Come Correct says:

See now that’s a much better approach, and I agree with you. I simply feel that if parents know they can be fined for children’s actions they may just be that much more vigilant. Something needs to be done for the long term with the growing and blatant disrespect for just about anything from the generations coming up.

    • DeadlyEggs says:

I agree, have them wash the buses w/o an arrest record.

    • They are only 15 so they won’t get a criminal record. They do not need more then community service at the bus terminal and at school for being in uniform while throwing eggs.

  15. Red Hind says:

Have them scrub the City sidewalks for 10 days with a toothbrush in the hot sun wearing hot pink coveralls

  16. James Rego says:

With people doing without food here on this island, these fools are able to find the money to buy valuable eggs to throw away. A dozen eggs could feed a person for 3-4 days. Maybe having them work with people helping the homeless, would give them a better appreciation of food and what they have done.

  17. Southampton says:

Make both of them wash the bus from top to bottom, then cut their tail.
Also make them do community service work for 2 weeks.
I hope the parents are responsible enough to punish these two boys as well.
    Southampton

  18. Cool Julio says:

Make an eggsample out of these rotten misfits

  19. Scoalsy says:

Probably be another slap no tap on the wrist, make them and all the other offenders clean our road sides that in desperate need because we don’t have the money to pay W&E
    Just saying

  20. Glad these guys made it easy for the police to catch them. Suspect that they are probably 2 young ex-pat boys from Saltus, MSA or WA who got involved with some other rowdy expat teenagers who egged them on…..

    • Small fry says:

Young eggs-pats causing trouble! But once again the BPS scrambled together and prevented omlette of trouble by cracking some h-eggs with some help from fried up bus drivers!

  21. Y-Gurl says:

Let’s lean up Bermuda, the cops are hard on egg throwers, while it might be a good start when can we expect you might be dealing with murderers and shooters

    • Joy says:

Y-Gurl, wimpy cops turn a blind eye to real crimes because it’s too much work and they can’t be bothered. A few days ago, I was driving in Somerset behind two cops and saw a group of guys on the roadside. One of them openly made a drug transaction right there on the street. If I saw it, they had to have seen it. If they didn’t, then they certainly aren’t doing their job and paying attention. Lo and behold, a few yards ahead, they put on their sirens and stop the resident village nuisance who was riding a push cycle. I don’t know what he did, but I’m sure it was some MAJOR crime like stealing a bottle of beer from Arnold’s. I said, smh look at this- drive straight across the drug dealers (in the vicinity of two schools) to hassle some petty thief. Unbelievable!!!

  22. Tony Trott says:

I just hope the little s***s who hit me in the neck last year when I was riding my scooter in Warwick get hit themselves at some point, preferably by a car.

  23. swing voter says:

idiot boys…. as a confessed thrower back in the day…..broad daylight don’t make no damn sense 2 me

  24. Bonsai says:

My daughter was driving my car ( had her license for 2 months) and someone threw an egg at the car. She almost mashed the car up, not knowing what happened. She got away with a damaged mirror and egg on the car. FYI egg eats the paint off of your car. It may not be just to wash the vehicle, but possibly re-painting it.

  25. Come Correct says:

  26. Joy says:

LOL @ Come Correct who says “I’m childish….yet they started it.”
    “You started it.”
    “No, you started it.”
You just made their point with that line about ‘who started it.’ LOL

    • Come Correct says:

I don’t get it…you put something in quotations that was never said. I gave my opinion like many on the article and “I Don’t Get It” is the one who started throwing their toys out of their crib and hurling insults, wah wah my opinion is right…Which sort of defeats the definition of an opinion because it would be fact if their statement was indeed correct. None of us are correct, they are opinions. Have I I’d you off or “former case worker”? No because you didn’t start hurling.insults for no reason. You came correct. See what I’m getting at?

    • Come Correct says:

      f’d* you off

  27. Next says:

How dumb are these kids to stand on the sidewalk, in broad daylight, in TOWN, in 2013 to throw eggs at a bus? I mean seriously. If they were say 12 I’d give them a break but 15? They have to be the dumbest 15 year olds ever. Congrats to their parents.

  28. Hungry. says:

In these hard times. Such a waste of food.

  29. BermudaGirl says:

The worst my brothers and I ever did was “paper” someone’s house or tree! A few times we “blocked off” roads with paper, until people figured it out, laughed, and went through it, My father explained that eggs did damage and went beyond “mischief”. He also explained that throwing an egg at a moving car could cause an accident. So we were content with “papering”!
