Video: Grainy Footage Of Actual Home Explosion

October 17, 2013

[Updated] Thanks to a homeowner’s security camera, Bernews has obtained video footage of the actual explosion that rocked an Ariel Sands neighborhood last night.

While not exactly the best quality, the video shows the actual point of the explosion, with a large bright orange burst appearing, which was followed by debris flying all through the air.

Video [and replay] of the actual explosion, which appears in the bottom left hand of the screen:

At around 6.25pm last night, a massive explosion shook Devonshire, blasting off part of the roof and walls of a Ariel Sands property, and shattering windows of surrounding homes.

Debris could be seen strewn across many nearby properties showing the long distances the roof pieces, electrical supplies and concrete had flown from the force of the explosion.

The property was extensively damaged, however the Police and Fire Service both confirmed that no one was injured, but that someone was treated for shock after the explosion. The cause remains under investigation.

Slideshow of the damaged property following the explosion:

The sound of the explosion extended past the immediate area, with Bernews readers reporting hearing it as far away as Paget and Smiths, as well as all through the Devonshire area including Hermitage Road, Lindos, Devonshire Bay, Middle Road, Brighton Hill and more.

You can view additional coverage/photos of the house explosion by clicking here.

Update 5.36pm: The police said that a 46 year old Devonshire woman who was treated for shock at the hospital after the explosion has been released.

it looks like something is flying in 0:09 and then the explosion

    • Doug says:

at full screen that appears to be a bird going right to left just before the blast

    • Sorry Sir says:

Looks like a bird. Suicide Bomber Bird? We should tell the US about this.
      lol

    • Come Correct says:

Looks like it could be a bird going across the camera, looks closer to the camera than the house but it’s moving fast and the timing is ironic. Highly doubt it was a drone strike though, unlike the fertilizer plant in Waco Texas.

      • XD says:

yeah you’re probably right. just looking for the next big conspiracy :’(

        • rule#5 says:

It is not a conspiracy fool…tryseeking out people that were there.

  2. XD says:

watched it a few times now that just looks strange

  3. Come Correct says:

Well there goes the water heater theory.

    • Sorry Sir says:

A water heater exploding would have never done that amount of damage in the first place. It would put a hole in your roof, but it won’t level and entire floor.

      • you should google what a water heater can do…..you would be surprised at the results….

      • I have seen this before and it is very consistant with what a water heater can do, believe me, it is exactly like what this is……explosion with no fire…..and it has happened before in Bermuda….

  5. terry says:

    Good thing it happened outside.

    I solved the case.

  6. Khalid says:

The house itself has cameras mounted. I wonder if the video is recoverable…

  7. Truth is killin' me... says:

    ANGRY BIRDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  8. Reverse Sweep says:

Im happy that no one died in this explosion. On the lighter side, I had an explosion similar to this but it was caused by my wife lighting a candle soon after the family had Bushs Baked Beans for dinner. Atleast the smoke killed the unpleasant aroma.

brings new meaning to ‘that marriage didn’t last a tube of gas’ LOL

  10. Annie says:

It never ceases to amaze me tha lack of maturity some Bermudians possess. This isn’t funny…imagine if this was your home and your family. These people could have been killed. This could happen to anyone of us…keep that in mind.

  11. Annie says:

    *any one

    • rule#5 says:

It should not surprise you the lack of maturity the world posesses – maybe peole are making jokes BECAUSE NO ONE WAS HURT – lighten up.

  12. Arthur - Atlanta says:

Wow! What a bang. Here in Georgia in some counties, when a house blows like that, a meth lab is the main suspect cause first then a possible gas leak next as to the cause. In 30 years of emergency services in Bermuda, I have never seen such explosive damage to a home…even from a hurricane.

  13. Booze cruise says:

    meteorite!!

  14. Johnboy says:

Just curious – where is this footage being shot from?

    • rule#5 says:

      Mellville Estates North

      • Bernews says:

Just to confirm what “rule#5″ said, yes…it was filmed from Melville Estates North.

  15. Real Deal says:

Well,I would say how they not smell that much gas leaking however the fact that they did not smell it is probly whay they did not die. If this was a house in the USA they would have died anywhere in the house.
