Chairman Ian Davidson notes that, “Each Festival is unique and I am excited about this year’s line-up which features something for everyone.

“To keep up with modern technology and to take our effort to be greener one step further, house programmes will only be available on our website and on our new Bermuda Festival App, available from the Apple App Store and Google Play.

“They can be read online a few days in advance of the event to enhance the audience experience, and if you feel a need to have it with you for the performance other than on your hand-held device, there is a print your own facility.”

Kicking off the 2014 Festival on January 16 is Pentatonix, iTunes sensation and winners of season three of NBC’s The Sing-Off as they perform their new compositions and covers of today’s popular numbers such as Fun’s “Carry On” and Macklemore’s “Thrift Shop”.

Pentatonix’ transformative performances will be followed by a debut visit from the UK’s Ballet Black, which will bring a variety of dance to the programme. Lovers of guitar, dance and the authentic flamenco culture will enjoy Noche Flamenca with Soledad Barrio, while guitar enthusiasts will also enjoy Dennis Cahill who appears with extraordinary Irish fiddler Martin Hayes.

Children’s writer Julia Donaldson’s famous book The Snail and the Whale will be dramatized by UK theatre company Tall Stories in a delightful show for young children.

This year there will be a Festival-within-a-Festival which will feature the magnificent organs of several churches in a series of recitals. Local organist Lloyd Matthew will open the event in a recital which also showcases the Bermuda Chamber Choir, followed by recitals including celebrity organist John Scott, an organ duo, and an organ with flute accompaniment.

Local performers including Earl Leader, Stan Gilbert, Conrad Roach and vocalists Sheila Smith and Gita Blakeney Saltus will star in Bermuda Jazz, hosted by Tony Bari, and British vocalist Melanie Marshall will provide a mixed programme of jazz, spirituals, musical theatre and classical music.

Rounding up the events will be a night of nostalgia with American English with The Complete Beatles Tribute celebrating the boys from Liverpool in all their guises, giving everyone a chance to let their hair down and Twist and Shout.
