MP Commissiong: Premier Needs To Be Honest

February 24, 2014

mr__rolfe_commissiong_bermuda[Updated] “The Premier needs to stop taking credit for work he didn’t do and be honest with Bermudians about the OBA’s deplorable track record and his relationship with Nathan Landow,” Shadow Minister of Workforce Development Rolfe Commissiong said.

During a recent press briefing, Premier Craig Cannonier said, “I am pleased to say we are starting to move Bermuda in the right direction. We’ve seen the largest number of new company incorporations since 2008 and that’s something to put in the headlines.

“The crime rate is down by 43%! The unemployment rate has dropped. We’ve recently brokered a deal with the Government of India to provide fully funded training for Bermudians in a number of disciplines.”

“And in the next few days you’ll hear from our Minister of Finance who will present a budget to bring forward necessary change for our financial recovery.

“We are working hard and will not be distracted from our goals to grow jobs and opportunity, reduce crime and make Bermuda more affordable,” added the Premier.

Mr. Commissiong said, ”Premier Cannonier during his last photo op continued to shortchange the Bermudian people by refusing to answer legitimate questions surrounding his relationship with Nathan Landow,”

“The Premier was also caught in another contradiction when he boasted about a fall in unemployment on the same day that his government released a report that showed that our economy had lost 921 jobs under the OBA.

“In his photo op, the Premier tried to take credit to a four year old initiative that has seen the availability of various training opportunities for our young people in India.

“This bilateral relationship with India had its genesis under the Progressive Labour Party Government and was the direct outgrowth of an initiative spearheaded by former Premier, Dr. Ewart Brown.

“This relationship directly led to significant opportunities for Bermudian students to avail themselves of high level training and certification in the technical fields and in film making.

“That initiative, along with the Cisco Certification programme at the Bermuda College which was also implemented by the PLP, places us on the cutting edge of high level training and certification opportunities for our young people.

“We firmly believe that economic downturns can present opportunities for our young people and adults to re -commit to education in order upgrade their skills and increase their marketability in what has become a highly competitive economy.

“The PLP is committed to STEM learning [Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths] and both of the above programmes can provide a pathway to success for those who are prepared to seize the opportunity.

“The Premier needs to stop taking credit for work he didn’t do and be honest with Bermudians about the OBA’s deplorable track record and his relationship with Nathan Landow,” concluded Mr. Commissiong.

Update Feb 25, 2.44pm: In response, the Premier’s Press Secretary said, “No comment will be given to these questions at this time, as they may relate to the judicial proceedings that were issued last week.”

Note to PLP. be apart of the fix and not the problem. Thank you Bermuda

    • BETTTY TRUMP says:

I am so glad that we have a Hard Working OPPOSITION”, and not a sleeping on. Keep holding the government Accountable for the People of Bermuda. Keep focusing on keep issues that impact Bermuda and her people.

I love this strong Opposition, as they stand strong to address the ongoing issues. It is important that the Government present HONEST and TRANSPARENT FACTS to the People, and not false data. It is the role of the Opposition to highlight the errors of the government, as well as provide solutions.

One of the most important roles for the Opposition is to examine what the Bermuda Government does. This involves debating policies, asking detailed questions about policies and Government actions, holding inquiries into specific issues or the work of public bodies and holding Ministers to account in the House of Assembly.
I expect nothing less, of the Opposition and ask them to continue on.

      Thanks Opposition, Keep pushing on.

      • It's about time! says:

Hey Bettty….we don’t care about what you like…or think, for that matter…you are irrelevant!

Oh….I still love you…keep up the good work!!

        • BETTTY TRUMP says:

          HOLDING THE GOVERNMENT TRANSPARENCY

“Issues such as transparency often boil down to which side of – pick a number – 40 you’re on. Under 40, and transparency is generally considered a good thing for society. Over 40, and one generally chooses privacy over transparency. On every side of this issue, hypocrisy abounds.”

          by Graydon Carter

Is it possible that hypocrisy abounds now within the UBPoba.

          I love this

          • X man says:

Lets be fair Betty Trump – you talk about transparency !
When the PLP was the Govt. of the day Bermuda was kept in the dark on many issues’
come on now – nothing in the history of politics in Bermuda could beat how four Men were
sneaked into Bermuda without the Bermudian People having prior knowledge [ lol] not even
your own PLP party knew —- just can’t beat that! – or must I keep going ‘
How about a PLP Premiers Big Flower Bill that surfaced or the many trips taken [lol] many of them nobody new nothing about – come on now’

      • Sara says:

It’s too bad they weren’t this concerned 7 years ago. We could have weathered this bad economy much better with some rainy day money…

      • Hmmm says:

Rolf, what did you achive when you were in power. All that money paid to you and what were your achievements?

      • somuchless says:

Dear Betty, thanks for caring and defending the poor loosing party. If they had done their job right the first time they would still be in power.

Stop being such a baby. Damn. You are like that mole that won’t go away.

        • BETTTY TRUMP says:

“There can be no faith in government if our highest offices are excused from scrutiny – they should be setting the example of transparency.”

          by Edward Snowden

So we should not be selective and hold government accountable. You can not call the PLP out, and fail to hold the UBPoba accountable and transparency. If not you are the king/queen of practicing hypocrisy. It was the UBPoba whom promised to do politics different. Now that folks are doing that, the UBPoba are failing to live up to it. TRANSPARENCY……I think not

          MUCH LOVE TO YOU…..

          • Tank Rain says:

Edward Snowden is who you chose to quote? A traitor at the highest level? You surprise me everyday.

            Hugs and Kisses,

      • Um Um Like says:

        You’re a b****.

    • Kangoocar says:

Betty, you wouldn’t be jumping to the top of the thread again would you???

      • BETTTY TRUMP says:

Your childlike behaviours becomes you. Sad your living in such a state. But I understand…the failure of the government to be TRANSPARENCY is killing you, and your only way to deal with it, is to attack the individual rather than the issue….hope you grow up soon…or at least be TRANSPARENT

        • Cranberry says:

Maybe the PLP should become the Reformed PLP as this is not the message they were send a few years ago… But then that was before they basically spent all the Island’s money and then lost an election….

  2. Shaka zulu says:

Strange comment about being “honest”!!from a armed robber..Was you honest when walking into a bank with a gun ,striking fear into people??To me you and others who are in polotricks, cannot ever be taking serious..

    • BETTTY TRUMP says:

Don’t attempt to attack someone character if you have not looked in the mirror. There are others within your party that wear similar flaws. Lets not go there, an better still attack the issue, and not the individual. GET REAL…

      • hmmm says:

Armed Robbery is OK by you then Betty?

      • shaka zulu says:

@Betty Trump, what makes you think this is my party?as in my previous blogs i am critical of both partys, and polo-trickters in general..Tired of you talking daily out of your a–.People like you are the first, to put my kind down by calling us uncle toms etc, but i struggled as a young black man to put myself through college and doing good for myself now.I choose in life to put a pen in my hand, and not a bottle or a gun.I choose to put an education in my brain and not drugs or alchol..so you see Betty you are not owed anything in life, for every day it is a struggle for many..So you must get real, people like yourself , Rolf, Mazumbo and others always talking this daily nonsense is getting really boring and also does not help out the PLP..As for Rolf ,if he cannot stand to be critized, i suggest he get out the lime light of polotics..

    • Mazumbo says:

@Shocken zucken, Ah don’t forget about your Minister of Tourism who was given responsibility over our judicial internal matters and stole the poison drug heroin to destroy the community. Hello

    • Yahoo says:

I guess Rolfy didn’t realize it was Flip Flop’s turn to get some press time today. Oh well, I guess he’s used to stealing from others…

    • tricks are for kids says:

SMH……I Just KNEW that someone was going to go there….Always that ONE person to bring up the past……

    • Truth Teller says:

Shaka Zulu is obviously a member of the Shaun Crockwell fan club.

      • Mazumbo says:

Actually its an insult for this dreamer to use a name like Shaka Zulu for his stance instead they should use Napoleon or Alexander the Greek.

        • shaka zulu says:

@Mazumbo, get over yourself dreamer, i use the name i want, and it is Alexander the Great, not Greek ..Looked up your name, this is what it said about you !! Trolls are immune to criticism and logical arguments. True trolls cannot be reasoned with, regardless of how sound your logical argument is.
Trolls do not feel remorse like you and me. They have sociopathic tendencies, and accordingly, they delight in other people having hurt feelings.
Trolls consider themselves separate from the social order.
Trolls do not abide by etiquette or the rules of common courtesy.
Trolls consider themselves above social responsibility.
Trolls gain energy by you insulting them.
Trolls gain energy when you get angry.
The only way to deal with a troll is to ignore him..internet trolls seek to be disruptive and hurtful by using any of the following techniques:
Trolls will post abusive and hurtful comments directed at a specific person (aka “flaming” another person)
Trolls will incite broad arguments and provoke angry responses by making controversial statements. (e.g. racism, religious intolerance, bigoted or elitist views, mysogyny, extreme political views)
Trolls will narcissistically dominate conversations, trying to make themselves the center of attention. (e.g. nonstop comments about themselves and their accomplishments; repeated self-centered statements and bragging)
Trolls will start many off-topic threads, seeking to derail users from the focus of an online community.
an internet troll is someone who stirs up drama and abuses their online anonymity by purposely sowing hatred, bigotry, racism, mysogyny, or just simple bickering between others. Trolls like a big audience, so they frequent blog sites, news sites, discussion forums, and game chat. Trolls thrive in any environment where they are allowed to make public comments.

          • Mazumbo says:

What’s so Great about Alexander other then killing family members to claim the thrown and plunder through Asia and Africa killing, looting and desecrating everything he encountered is nothing short of Great.
If that’s the case you might as well call Hitler Great.
Like I said Alexander the Greek as he was a Pagan Greek.
            Shakan Dodo

        • Cleancut says:

You are a great insult to Dr. Gordon for using his name. Maybe you should use Castro.

  3. CUBA says:

Stop dreaming. You lot got us in this mess, they are trying to get us out without much help from the plp and are at least starting to get somewhere. As far as the truth is concerned this is a case of the pot calling the kettle green or some similar comparison. When your party tells the TRUTH will be a cold day in hell. 921 job loss would be far less than what the plp caused.

  4. Kangoocar says:

I swear!!! The plp remind me of tag team wrestlers??? They seem to come in and out of the ring daily!!! Earlier today we had BUD woban, and now commissiong !!! They just will never stop with the constant criticism??? I could understand it a little better if they in fact did a good job!!! But we all know were their thoughts and actions took us in their 14 yrs of terror don’t we??? Can someone please tell them to shut up or be a part of the solution to cleaning up their mess?????

    • Betty Trump says:

Thanks to the Opposition for holding the “Government ACCOUNTABLE” for the people of Bermuda. A working Opposition is most effective. The role of the Opposition is speak to issues that impact Bermuda, and her people. Keep it up.

      • Hmmm says:

Nope, that is not the role of the opposition. (Sigh)

        • Ian says:

Hmmm… maybe there should be no opposition and the OBA should be free to do whatever they please, right!?

          • Kangoocar says:

Theirs always should be an opposition, but it should be an intelligent opposition, that puts forth good and sensible alternatives!!!! When we have the plp coming out in droves daily saying nothing other than nonsense, and offering nothing of substance, than I have to say we don’t need an opposition such as them, they are not an opposition, they are a hindrance!!! Huge difference my young friend!!!!!

            • Time Shall Tell says:

If the OBA where an intelligent opposition the PLP would of been kept in check…

            • Mazumbo says:

That’s hypocritical to say, but when P.L.P were Govt. Dr. Brown was in the daily on a regular but now the daily is mum on issues that superseded Dr. Brown. I don’t mind paying an opposition for giving valid information, eg. Jet Gate, 50% increase in travel expense in first year of office(after blasting the P.L.P for the same thing), taking credit for training in India(after blasting Dr. Brown for making contact in India), taking credit for the reduction in crime when crime was on a decrease for 3 years, etc, etc., compared to paying a Govt. who don’t want to answer questions, denying reporters from interviewing, refusing to go on talk shows(after accusing P.L.P of not being Transparent, Honest and Open.
So I guess some people will see them as a hindrance.

    • Ian says:

14 yrs of terror?? Were you hear to experience the seemingly everlasting bliss that everyone from businesses to individuals to banks bought into right up until 2k8 [e.g. JUST 6 YEARS AGO]. Any “diehard” OBA-can-do-no-wrong supporter that drops that 14 years of crap bs will only get [some] credit for their perspective if they are at most….. 6 YEARS OLD!! You people are ridiculous…

      • Time Shall Tell says:

Correct Ian, what is also lacking is the fact that what is listed as “The Great Recession” (which has been felt world wide with the collapse of many economies the world over) also started the same time as our economic decline. Some how some people think we’re recession proof or live in some kind of economic bubble. A search of the Mundi report shows the strongest economic growth in our history was with in those same 14 years. Simple math also shows that 8 of those 14 years where our economies strongest but people only want to focus on something that has hit the entire worlds economy & place that blame on a single political party on a small spec of an island in the middle of the ocean…

        • Tough Love says:

          Thank you!

        • LOL (original TM*) says:

Actually no our decline started beofore the collapse.

          LOL

        • haha says:

You guys are so blinded by what the PLP has told you…jeez it’s scary. What happened to those economies that declined, they bounced back, what happened to ours even though we’re “small spec of an island in the middle of the ocean,” still aint bounced back! I could on but you wouldn’t hear it…

          • Time Shall Tell says:

Actually no they haven’t, you obviously don’t pay attention to the world news…

    • Concerned says:

ROlf just came out from under his study papers keep studying it keeps you quiet

  5. Jus' Askin' says:

    Premier being honest ;-) ;-)
Rolfe you crack me up :-D :-D

  6. judgment says:

Get over the Landlaw thing and come up with a better plan for the economy Rolfe! We need jobs not excuses!

    • Impressive says:

      Get over it?? seriously? wow

      • Andrew says:

What really is the big deal?

        • Impressive says:

The fact that the Premier took one of his personal business affiliates on a government trip, which isn’t that big a deal I guess? However, when he was questioned about it, he misled the electorate by stating the the gentleman was simply “bumming a ride”, when it was revealed by the Minister of Tourism that the gentleman actually attended the meeting. So you don’t have a problem with him misleading the media? Which basically means he purposely deceived people, which in my humble opinion call’s his credibility into question, does it not?????? Not to mention that a individual who is not an elected member of the government should not be in a meeting discussing government affairs, unless I am mistaken. The biggest problem I have with it is that the Premier lied, and I don’t know about you, but I have a problem with the leader of my country misleading the people through his own made up sequence of events. I expect more from a leader, and no I would not overlook it if it was a PLP Premier doing the same thing.

Secondly I also have a problem with him stating that the reason he was abandoning his year and a half long pledge to hold a referendum on gaming, because he claimed that the PLP where planning to disrupt the process, although he hasn’t provided any concrete evidence of this happening. I also have a big problem with the party in general trying to feed the electorate such an insulting question as it relates to the referendum. I don’t have a problem with gaming, if its going to help us move forward, then lets bring it on, but through the correct protocol. However, if you as a member of the community are not insulted by the way the question was phrased then I guess nothing the OBA does will ever offend you.

Not to mention, recording conversations without people’s permission, those are just a few things to ponder on.. There are more, but I don’t want you to get overwhelmed with “my” version of events.

          • Concerned says:

reads like Rolf… get a job man get a job oh wait it was your party that put the means to which many lost jobs, homes in place WTH

            • Impressive says:

care to clarify your post? Interested to know why you don’t think I am employed?

          • Mazumbo says:

Its called Blind Loyalty, oh I forgot that only applies to P.L.P.
            LMFAO

        • CUBALibra says:

not near as big as the plp behind the scenes moves. al la uguirs etc

  7. Y-Gurl says:

That’s a joke, be honest? Like a gun slinging bank robber honest? Get real Rolfe

    • BETTTY TRUMP says:

NO need to attempt to attack the individual, rather attack the issue. Do not forget the UBPoba have few within their party with similar flaws. Lets not have a case of long-term memory deficits. Stop with it….as others can list them for you… but instead debate the issue, and deal with the fact your PRemier is has not answered key Questions… REALLY

      • 32n64w says:

“NO need to attempt to attack the individual, rather attack the issue. ”

        Hypocrite much?

      • Y-Gurl says:

I never thought I would ever have to respond to one of your idiotic posts..none the less ill try and keep this so even you will understand, I’m not attacking anyone, im being HONEST in questioning a dishonest persons moral right to ask a non convicted bank robber to be honest

    • Truth Teller says:

Another member of Shaun Crockwell’s fan club. It appears that they are out in force today.

They conveniently forget that he paved the way for Shaun and others…

  8. biskit says:

None of these plp guys seem the slightest bit interested in doing what’s best for Bermuda, just constant criticism, most of it unwarranted and driven by hatred.

Very sad. Why dont you all try to work together?

    • Ian says:

I’m guessing you’re not from around these parts..

    • Tough Love says:

Their title is called the ‘Opposition’. It’s their job to hold the government accountable, and not just smile and nod. If the OBA forgot anything from their UBP parents, it’s that the PLP are a damn good opposition.

      • haha says:

nope just a bunch of whiney little b*****s that make up lies and allegations about people without any proof and cry just so they can get back into power like its some competition, lmfao FOH!

  9. nuffin but the truth says:

the plp were not honest…remember this ONE example..
“we had to lie to you”

    • Andrew says:

No, it was “We had to deceive you!”

      • Ian says:

Tells us what he OBA has lied about over the past 14 months. Go ahead, try to put your bias aside first and see if you’re capable of seeing things for WHAT THEY ARE. Your own Premier doesn’t even trust the “good ole boys” he finds himself working “alongside” with… OBA supporters are the personification of irony.

        • haha says:

Um yeah he does…you’re just a moron who believes Bean’s allegations.

      • LOL (original TM*) says:

So what “we” = the whole party then and you want others to vote for them again? One or two poeple can be replaced but the whole party.

        LOL

  10. Looking in says:

    “We had to deceive you”
The promised hotel in St.Georges, the cost overruns on every govt project. Please PLP, sit down and observe good governance!

    • Mazumbo says:

Did you know what the overruns were on the National Stadium, Incinerator, Airport?

      • LOL (original TM*) says:

Yes do you know the margins they where over by and then lets compair to the margins of the PLP’s projects. Should be an interesting read.

        LOL

        • Rob says:

It’s not about the PLP’s cost overruns, it’s about where the monies went. Monies were unaccounted for.

    • Ian says:

These days that quote can be applied more directly to the Jetgater posse and that child Nandy! Its so ironic. Do you not realize how foolish you look dropping the “we had to deceive you” line after the OBA has lied about everything from work permit term limit suspension to reasons for scrapping a promised referendum on gaming? Please enlighten us further on the subject of good governance…

      • LOL (original TM*) says:

Personally I don’t think they lied about term limits. They said they would review it for two years. First of all 2 years to review it why? They said they had a report that the PLP had done and it out lined that the policy was useless. You think they lied about that then ask the PLP about the report. If they did lie then fine but if they can produce the said report then what?

        LOL

    • Swizzled says:

“And this to shall pass” as spoken by a former plp person

  11. Paul says:

How the hell do we have convicted criminals representing us ? I have had enough of of former criminals like rolfe and shawn, you guys have a lot of nerve to think we would have any respect for you……
Premier … fire Shawn….. he is a looser’

  12. Mazumbo says:

Don’t forget, Commercial Immigration, Referendum, 50% increase in travel expenditure in one year, secret taping, de guy that bummed a lift on jet gate, etc, etc. I know that P.L.P f@#&ed up but O.B.A/ubp are giving stiff competition in one year.

    • Mazumbo says:

OH I FORGOT , no questions at press interviews, well tv statements.

      • Balls says:

Yeah MazDUMBO, those irrelevent questions are not worth the OBA’s time. They have more important things to do than play childish games like…run a country, but we wouldn’t expect you to understand…..

      • Sara says:

        Now now, no plantation questions…

  13. Really says:

Someone said he at least didn’t rob a bank

  14. Redmen says:

MP Commissiong a man who’s ‘wise’ advice and ‘sound’guidance Bermuda & the Premiere could well do without!!

  15. Ian says:

OBA supporters have to be the most naive, gullible folk around. Its a phenomena of denial that can perhaps only be matched by the likes of staunch republicans and tea party fanatics. Ironically enough, if it came down to their own personal affairs, none of them would trust Craig, Shawn, Nandy or Pettingill if they had to bank on that trust.

    • Concerned Smiths says:

Who would trust the PLP? Really?

      • LOL (original TM*) says:

The fact alone that many PLP supporters try to pain the OBA supporters as Tea Party is funny to me. Guess they think that cause they are mainly black that they could not be Tea Party like yet the numerous racist rants they continuely throw out at the public. Must think their supporters are the only ones listening.

        LOL

  16. ….One in the chamber says:

Can one of you OBA trolls address the ISSUE? Don’t you remember what YOU said about India and the then Premier’s work in setting up EXACTLY what your Premier is now taking credit for? Just be honest for once and give credit where credit is due. Damn.

    • LOL (original TM*) says:

I give credit to DREB for that no problem here. Also equally nice is that the Premier and Rolf started a generic drug company and passed laws in the House so they could do it at the same time.

LOL power = oppertunities I guess. Isn’t that like insider trading?

  17. squirt says:

I’m black and I hate PLP, You will never get my vote… I’m young too

    • Mazumbo says:

Obviously your parents didn’t school you on the history of your for fathers and if you already know about your history your delusioned to have so much hate for an entity that helped pave the way for spoiled lil brats who think everything they have dropped out of the sky.

      • Grubster says:

My parents did educate me in the history or my ancestors, male and female, not just fathers. You don’t forget the hard lives, the sacrifices and the discrimination, but you remember and work forward in the context of the modern day. Hard work and getting yourself educated is open to everyone, whoever you are.

      • Enough says:

    • Coffee says:

O.k Beatlejuice , Howard Stern wants you back .

    • Time Shall Tell says:

Reminds me of a conversation I had with a young guy a few weeks ago. He stated “Things where so much better when the UBP where in power”, I looked at him & ask him how old he was. His reply (straight faced) was “17″………….

      • sisu says:

So what part of what he said do you take issue with? Under the UBP did we have billions in debt, etc.? His position isn’t a ridiculous one. Just one you might disagree with. And just because I’m not 200 doesn’t mean I can’t say slavery was bad. Or in your mind does it??

  18. Jo Blo says:

I would not trust any of the small town yocal politicians in Bermuda. Its clearly not the best local minds making their way into politics. While the most gifted talent make their way into private sector opportunities, you are left with a bunch of amateurs, on both sides, that actually believe they are smarter than they are because they’re surrounded by painfully average colleagues with seemingly prestigious titles. End result is a bunch of country bumpkins that are overly reliant on guidance from consultants and big business interests for guidance/direction on how to run their country!! Bermuda is a joke as it relates to politics, and all of you folks taking sides, caught up in the warfare between the two parties are a bunch of primates that may as well be in a cage throwing filth at each other.

  19. Jim Jones says:

I get a kick out of Rolfe insisting on using the term ‘photo op’ over and over instead of ‘press conference’. Give us a break Rolfe, unlike your mate not all premiers are star struck celebrity chasers that do nothing but spend OUR cash on pointless ‘photo ops’

    • Evie says:

This is sad now let me see if i understand correctly we are now saying it okay if you lie n deceive us because it is now the OBA who are not being honest OMG we really have some major issues in Bermuda Holy popcorn Batman smdh
      .

      • LOL (original TM*) says:

        One word

Alleged like them or not the PLP brought about a whole new group of descriptives for BDA politicians.

        LOL

      • Jim Jones says:

        Um, no.

You definitely do not understand correctly.

That’s not even close to what I said.

I was merely commenting on Rolfe’s use of the term “photo op”, which I think is childish and takes away from his argument.

  20. jt says:

The PLP actually could have weathered their issues had they produced results. The OBA will weather their issues if they produce results. It does seem that the PLP learned that lesson, jusdgin by their strategy now.

    • Rob says:

The only reason the PLP failed was because of Dr.Brown & Col.Burch end of story!

  21. Triangle Drifter says:

“The Premier needs to stop taking credit for work he didn’t do and be honest with Bermudians about the OBA’s deplorable track record”. HA!

To use a favorite line of Rolfe’s, with one significant modification, The PLP failed & the PLP failed MISERABLY. We are still waiting for him & his beloved party to take credit for the horrendous term of ineptitude that they put Bermuda through. An appology to go along with it would be nice.

    • Triangle Drifter says:

Oh Dear, 19 dislikes. Must have stepped on some toes. Nope, not sorry about that.

  22. brutus says:

the plp needs to disband..their weak opposition and their obvious lies are too infantile…these rookies bean, burt, diallo, daniel show NO SUBSTANCE NOR SAVVY to deal with govt. matters THEY should pick up needle work..so they can bicker all day ..

  23. Bermuda boy says:

PLP BIU get lost. 14 loooooong years was enough.

  24. C-a-Rat says:

okay, who went straight to the comments on this story?

    • Triangle Drifter says:

No, not quite. But I will admit that seeing it was the comments of Eva’s understudy I did only skim through.

  25. Need Peace says:

I swear these OBA bloggers are a bunch of twelve year olds. They understand nothing! Where was the UBP/OBA during the PLP’s governance? Why were they allowed to run as they liked and destroy our Island? Who the heck do you think put an end to it? The OBA? NO! The loyal supporters of the PLP! So all you kids go run along and do your homework!! If the OBA doesn’t get it right they will out again too! If you don’t recognize good governance, you are part of the problem!

  26. Need Peace says:

@ Jim Jones – mind if I correct you, a press conference is when THE PRESS are allowed to ask questions. Our Premier should have indicated that it was a press statement if he knew any better. I could agree on a photo-op!

  27. my view says:

I am convinced that most of the above comments are from OBA people which in and of its self is ok but to attack Betty serves no purpose but only adds to entertainment.

People believe that PLP created the situation we are in and what ,PLP must have caused the issues in all of the rest of the world too. I support the present Government to position us for the future and make the decisions necessary. What I will not support is people that have very short memories . You forget the good years when yesterday you are a labourer and tomorrow you are making more money than you can spend in your new construction co and guest workers .You forget that if you owned a house in 1998 or earlier and then in 2006 or before it doubled in value.

What I want to see is the cost of electricity and food decrease like my wage ,what I would like to see is people at the poverty line be exempt from pay roll tax ..They are the ones that need a break.

So to my OBA and PLP friends we need to work together for the good of all … But that will never happen . Sad indeed. The leak in the boat albeit on my side will effect you as well . Do you want to bail or fix the leak???

    • hmmm says:

You lose all credibility if you don’t understand that the PLP oveheated an economy at full employment. They engaged in unsustainable spending practices and that is why we are in this mess.

If you put someone without financial credentials in charge of finance, what do you expect. they are at it again with the shadow minister. The PLP learned nothing.

  28. Its a Stick UP says:

    …Please dont shoot!

  29. Navin Johnson says:

The real story here is why does Betty have an extra T?

  30. History 101 says:

    To Mr. Commissiongn,

The Government of the day is responsible for all current programs, whether they initiated them or not. A little history lesson for you sir.

In 1997 David Dodwell, as Misister of Tourism and Transport, began an initiative to build and run fast ferries. In Feb. 1998 a committee was formed to develop the program which was well underway when the PLP won the election late that year. Who took full credit for launching the fast ferry project?

    • LOL (original TM*) says:

      Correct!!!

    • Triangle Drifter says:

Not long after the PLP came to power in 1998 the then new Arrivals area at the airport was completed. The PLP went down for the official opening in full force. “Look what we did!” They didn’t have the common decency to acknowledge & credit the former UBP Minister who was responsible for the project. Wasn’t even invited to the party.

      No class at all.

    • Dr. the Hon. Ewart F. Brown says:

To Those Who Refuse to Remove Their Hoods:

      1. It is not uncommon for a new Government to pick up where the previous Government left off. For example, when the Hon.Wayne Furbert was Transport Minister, he developed plans to renovate the airport. His party lost the election and as the new Transport Minister I led the ribbon-cutting ceremony. However, as he will attest and the record shows, I invited him to the event and acknowledged his work prior to my arrival.
      2. There was a huge difference regarding the fast ferries. It is true that the UBP Government considered the fast ferries but the Director of Marine and Ports was strongly opposed to the idea. Therefore no ferries had been approved at the Ministry level and no budget had been procured to purchase the ferries. Therefore it was appropriate to announce this as a PLP project. Got it?

  31. BUTTY TREMP says:

OBA blaah blaahh. PLP are great blaah blahh dribble.

  32. Coffee says:

Ralph stop wasting your time trying to extract the truth out of a party whose foundation was constructed from blocks of lies and fear mongering .

  33. Farmer Giles says:

    “…needs to be honest.”. Ha!

Does the statement “We had to deceive you.” from a former PLP Premier ring any bells?

Does anyone care to remember Andre Curtis and that BOONDOGGLE? Now there was an affair fraught with honesty, integrity and total transparency!!

Sadly, the PLP wouldn’t recognize honesty if it stood directly in front of them. They’ve become the noisy gong or clanging cymbal. A far cry from their founding ideologies.

  34. bluebird says:

Thank you Mr Premier and thank you Mr Finance Minister of the OBA.
I Hope you all noticed in Barbados (3000) civil servant/Government workers have been layed off/lost there jobs.
We would have been in the same position had the PLP still been in power.

  35. bluebird says:

    @ my view
You cannot deal with “RACISTS and DEMAGOGUES” as you know it takes two to tango.

  36. Sara says:

Know this, if the PLP truly cared about their supporters they would be working their a**es off to make up for all their financial mismanagement by working with the OBA to help Bermudians. But it seems all they care about are creating scandals and winning back the government. Not one admittance of how much they messed up their math…

  37. bluebird says:

It is not in the “INTEREST” of the PLP to have the OBA be successful.
It will just make it more difficult for them to regain power and strip any assets that we might have left.
The Jamican Dollar is ($108) to the US/BDA dollar,is that where you want us to be???

    • Time Shall Tell says:

Neither was it in the interest of the OBA to be an effective opposition when they carried that role. Had they have been a lot of what happened under PLP wouldn’t of happened but then that would of made it harder for the OBA to step into power.

  38. enough says:

The PLP should do what The Bible says and remove the beam from their own eye before worrying about the moat in their neighbour’s eye.

  39. Looking in says:

This dude could lead the country, how sca……… Is that!

    • Triangle Drifter says:

That would be his ambition. Yes, a very scary vision.
