BCLS To Host “Inspiring” Spoken Word Artist

The Bermuda College Literary Society [BCLS], a student club aimed at promoting literary consciousness among the campus and community, is getting set to host acclaimed spoken word artist Javon Johnson for two performances on Wednesday, March 26 and Thursday, March 27.

A spokesperson said, “BCLS and the Division of Liberal Arts are hosting renowned, inspiring, and dynamically creative spoken word artist Javon Johnson. This powerful and versatile slam poet offers a timely and thought provoking message fit for young people.

“This world class poet has been a two time national slam poetry champion, and appeared on HBO’s Def Poetry Jam, BET’s Lyric Cafe, and TVOne’s Verses & Flow, and is a featured blogger on the Huffington Post. He also boasts academic accolades as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Southern California in the Department of American Studies and Ethnicity.

“He received his PhD from Northwestern University in Performance Studies and is currently Assistant Professor of Performance and Communication Studies at San Francisco State University. He continues to showcase his exceptional talent to audiences all over the United States.

“This literary master will be at the Bermuda College Library on Wednesday, March 26 at 5.30pm. This workshop is for teachers as well as the community.

“On Thursday, March 27 from 2.00pm – 4.00pm at the Bermuda College lecture theatre G301 in North Hall, Javon will perform and answer questions from high school and Bermuda College students, as well as the community.”
