Famous, Scraders, Minors Win CARIFTA Medals

[Updated: Bermuda wins three medals, with Kyrah Scraders, Sakari Famous and Dage Minors all delivering big performances to open Bermuda's medal tally.]

The 2014 CARIFTA Games is underway in Martinique, with Bermuda’s team among the hundreds of athletes competing in the regional track and field competition.

Bermuda’s 13-strong team consists of: Tiara DeRosa [Shot Put & Discus], Kyrah Scraders [800m & 1500m], Sakari Famous [High Jump], Azaire Smith [High Jump], Taahira Butterfield [100m & 200m], Kionje Somner [200m & 400m], Daniel Oatley [3000m], Jahnai Perinchief [High Jump & Triple Jump], David Darrell [800m & 1500m], Michaiah Robinson [400m & 800m], Chas Smith [Triple Jump & Long Jump], Dage Minors [1500m & 5000m] and Justin Donawa [Triple Jump].

Opening Ceremony: Bermuda’s team comes in at the 30 second mark:

There appear to be some communication issues, with reports that the internet at the venue is sporadic and slow. The results are not being posted in real time, so at this time it is unclear how Bermuda’s athletes have fared, however we will update as able.

The competition runs from today [Apr 19] through Monday, April 21.

Update 6.57pm: A live stream can be found here. [The commentary is not in English.]

Update 7.08pm: Bermuda has won two medals, with Kyrah Scraders claiming silver in the 1500m and Sakari Famous winning silver in the high jump.

Update 8.06pm: We are now up to three CARIFTA medals, with Dage Minors putting on a sprint at the end of the 1500m to win the bronze.
