Photos: Premier Dunkley Dances With Gombeys

May 26, 2014

The Premier traditionally dances with the Gombeys during the Bermuda Day Parade and this year was no exception, with newly sworn-in Premier Michael Dunkley showing off his moves during today’s festivities.

The Premier was cheered on by the crowds as he made his way into the street, and at one point the Premier was almost hidden as the Gombeys circled around him as they danced to the rhythmic beat of the drums.

This guy will go down as Bermuda’s best ever Premier!

    • js says:

decent guy but unless Bermudian society does a 180 degree turn still a liability

    • mixitup says:

      lol, now that was funny!

    • frank says:

no way the best premier will always be SIR.JOHN SWAN

      • Jo Blo says:

I second that! That would be a rockstar comeback annoucement for the OBA. Even PLP supports wouldnt deny that.

    • Eddie Boy says:

Let’s hope and wish that your words come true — for all of Bermuda’s sake!

    • realist says:

      Maybe for white Bermuda

      • Coffee says:

Craig Cannonier will always be the best OBA premier ever !

        • DarkSideOfTheMoon says:

And last OBA premier…since the party no longer exists

          • Coffee says:

Thank you for picking that one up !!

            • haha says:

Can’t wait to see the morons you people put together if you guys get back in power…what a joke that is!

        • Anon says:

          Still a hater I see

      • Anon says:

        That’s helpful

  4. Senior Family says:

Amazingly what he will do for votes. Prior to OBA being elected, we never saw him at any Bermuda Day functions nor Labour Day marches, now they are all over the place

    • It's about time! says:

Hater….you’re looking at the MOST popular politician on this island!! AND that’s in spite of EVERYONE knowing that he was UBP!!!!

Chack ya finga’s….one pointin’ out and THREE pointin’ back at YOU!!!

      • Concerned Citizen says:

Marc Bean is the most popular politician on the island. I saw him walking about the crowds yesterday, but he did not require a bodyguard or security! The people love him. And yes, Premier Dunkley is very popular too, but for different reasons

        • haha says:

Guess who started that trend lmao. You’re funny!! And security is commonplace worldwide for leaders so shut ya dumb self up.

    • Calling says:

What about the Dr? We never saw him before he was premier and I didn’t think he has been since?

    • Kangoocar says:

Why don’t you try reading the first sentence of this article???? It clearly says he traditionally dances with the gombeys and this year WAS NO DIFFERENT!!!! Liar!!! When did we ever see a plp premier do that?????

      • Say What? says:

@Kangoocar: I’m no fan of his but Ewart Brown always danced with the Gombeys-he always enjoyed that attention. I don’t think Paula Cox or Jennifer Smith did, though. I think maybe its a male thing-the male Premiers always danced with the Gombeys, Ewart included.

        Dunk looks cute ;-)

        • MAKE MY DAY says:

Plse… DON’T even mention those names on this “blog” – as we are ALL trying hard to forget what the PLP and “certain people” did to this Island for soooo many years!!!

The PLP gave BDA the $$BILLION debt – which is going to be hanging-around our grand kids necks!!!

          • Say What? says:

Who are you to say what we can or can’t discuss?!!! Who appointed you the Bernews blog police???

    • filobedo21 says:

@Senior Family I am certain you have maligned Mr Dunkley, I am certain he has attended a couple of Labor Day Events at Barnard’s Park. Also he’s a good constituency member of parliament which translates into votes, you can’t say that for too many of the Opposition Members of Parliament.

    • Robert says:

So true, this man is phoney !!!

  5. Triangle Drifter says:

Who says white byes can’t dance? He is trying anyway. Getting down with the people. When is the last time anyone saw that happen? Can’t think of a single one.

    Way to go Premier Dunkley!!!

    • Eddie Boy says:

I myself never really believed such a thing as white boy’s can’t dance -
What I do believe that specific groups/tribes/cultures/ of people on earth have centered much of there culture around rhythmic beats and dance and music from birth – that it becomes a part of them. — you have to see Irish step dancers.
I’m sure that Premiere Dunkley – being the guy who has walked among common folk for years although he came from
a business Family has a good idea about how the Gombeys Dance and Bermudian Culture as whole.

      • Say What? says:

There’s something about the beat of the Gombeys that gets you and makes you want to move-it has some kind of hynotic effect. I think anyone-black or white-enjoys the beat of the Gombey; it’s a part of our Bermudian culture.

  6. somuchless says:

Dunk is great. This guy is and has always been in contact with the public.

He deff had a good day and I saw him a few times walking around and participating and even posting on social media.

    Go dunk.

  7. Alvin Williams says:

I would be more interested if the new UBP/oba emperor is going to roll back his government’s anti-Bermudian policies and put the focus on the back bone of this country; the Bermudian people. Than he can the dance with the Gombeys all he wants; until than he is following the path of his predecessor; indulging in more opportunities for photo-opts.

    • haha says:

You really are a dumba** lmfao! So no PLP premier has ever had photo ops or danced with the gombeys. The only anti-bermudian is you spouting all that dumb **** day in and day out. The more you repeat it the more it becomes true I can see for you. Unfortunately we have to rely on IB, where else is the money coming from? Exporting our vegetables and sand?! You’re clueless….

  8. BDA_Girl says:

How did this come to Politics, when it was all about Bermuda day. I wish some of you people will set your difference aside for once. The point is he is having a good time. You’ll always have to make an issue out of nothing.

  9. so sad says:

Take it for what it is. He is just enjoying the holidays. Everyone has to bring some sort of negativity into everythimg

  10. the truth says:

drop the white comment dummy we are all people of the country eff off with that us “white people” struggle just as much as any race #racist
