Fishing Boat Trio Rescued After Engine Fails

Three people are safe after the fishing vessel they were on lost engine power leaving the boat adrift on Wednesday [Nov 5] off Bermuda’s North Shore. The Bermuda Police vessel Heron II responded and towed the boat to the Burchall’s Cove area.

A Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre spokesperson said, “On Wednesday 5th November 11:37am, local FV Big Hopper reported engine failure. The vessel was in water too deep to anchor, and about 2 miles north of North Rock and drifting on a moderate westerly wind.

“There were 3 persons onboard. Bermuda Radio alerted vessels in the area making an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast and the Bermuda Police vessel Heron II responded from Dockyard. Heron II towed FV Big Hopper safely to the Burchall’s Cove area where mechanical assistance was rendered by a contractor.”
