Video: Fire Extinguished At Gibbons Gardens

[Updated] The Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service responded to a fire at the Gibbons Gardens in Devonshire, with thirteen firefighters responding at 3.24am this morning [Feb 7].

A structure at the property suffered what the BFRS described as “extensive heat and smoke damage, as well as structural damage”. The BFRS said no one was in the property when they arrived, and further details are limited at this time, however we will update as able.

Update 6.04am: The BFRS said, “At approximately 3:24 am Saturday, February 7th, 2015 the Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service responded to a report of “a house on fire” at the main residence of the Gibbons Gardens Estate.

Fire Service spokesperson, Sergeant Russann Francis reports, “the Fire Service responded to the incident with 3 vehicles and 13 personnel.

“Six firefighters dressed in breathing apparatus were able to contain the fire to one room of the residence. The structure has received extensive damage including smoke and heat damage throughout.

“There were no injuries; however, of the 2 pets, one was able to self rescue prior to our arrival.”

    I notice an increase in fires this time of year! I think people need to make sure there fire places are fully extinguished before going to bed..

    I’ve assumed it’s been the cold – incorrect use of heaters Odd that BFRS has not made a statement.

      Because first of all they investigate and determine the cause of the fire. Don’t assume because you know what that does. Fireplaces heaters – we don’t know so we need to wait and see if the fire department make a determination.

        BFRS should naturally do a PSA regarding the safe operation of heating equipment this time of year.

        What did they determine in the three explosions and previous fires? I have never heard a statement explaining any fire (except HWP maybe) or those explosions yet. Bermudas’ best kept secret, are there patterns, failed components, wiring faults, would be nice to know. Test and replace smoke detectors, don’t overload circuits, careful with candles…
