Photos: Relay For Life 24 Hour Walk Fundraiser

May 30, 2015

Huge crowds turned out at the National Sports Centre last night and today [May 30] for the Relay For Life event which concluded at 6.30pm this evening.

Last year 124 teams signed up to take part in Bermuda’s first Relay For Life of event, raising almost $500,000, and this year over 130 teams have registered.

The team based fundraising event helps to raise awareness and funds to support cancer programmes in Bermuda. During the 24 hours, team members take it in turns to walk around the track at the Sports Centre which was turned into a tented village for the event.

.

Ninety-five per cent of the amount raised will remain in Bermuda and will support the Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre’s radiation therapy initiative. The rest will go to the American Cancer Society’s Global Relay For Life to assist in the global fight against cancer.

Premier Dunkley earlier today said, “I am very pleased to join my wife Pam and her team to support their efforts in what I believe is a tremendously worthy cause.”

This year entertainment for the event was laid on throughout the entire 24 hours and was scheduled to include dance productions, live music, fitness classes [including yoga and cross fit], various DJs, plus activities for the entire family.

  1. Just wondering says:

    To TB Cancer

Are you going to be providing a statement in regards to the proposed changes to mammograms?

    It would be great!

    • Ray says:

Ignorance is bliss. Firstly, Bermuda Cancer & Health already provide funding for mammograms. For those not covered by health insurance they have provided free mammograms for years. Second, you can drop the TB from their name because they did many years ago.

    • Mockingjay says:

I don’t think so, certain segments of society don’t confront U.B.P/oba, I’ve only seen them protest once in my lifetime and that was against Dr. Brown.
      Welcome to the 2 Bermudas

  2. Dangel says:

A great fundraiser! Excellent organization!! As you can appreciate the team at Bermuda Cancer and Health were very busy organizing the Relay for Life 2015 which ended earlier this evening. I would expect that sometime next we will receive a statement from this worthy body.

    • Raymond Ray says:

Totally agree “Dangel” but unfortunately many don’t acknowledge the importance of such organizations until they’re,(a family member/friend) inflicted…
“Death does not discriminate” and strikes at any age. Thanks to Bermuda Cancer & Health research its extended the lives of countless people worldwide.
