June 29, 2015

[Updated with video] A big showing from the island’s sprinters has seen Bermuda claim both the gold and silver medals in the 100m during the Island Games in Jersey today [June 29], with Taahira Butterfield winning gold and Natasha Trott winning the silver.

Both of Bermuda’s sprinters had made it to the finals after winning their respective heats earlier. Butterfield won gold in a time of 12.24, Natasha Trott’s time of 12.32 saw her collect the silver, while the Shetland Islands’ Faye Cox rounded out the medal podium with her time of 12.39 seeing her win the bronze.

The Island Games sees athletes from 24 islands compete in up to 14 sports, and competition is set to continue over the next few days.

Bermuda’s Island Games medal tally is now up to three and we are 7th on the medal table, as the two medals today follow after Chris Estwanik’s gold medal winning performance in the half marathon yesterday.
