Videos: Oracle Team Receives Second Boat
America’s Cup defending champion Oracle Team USA recently received a special delivery when its second boat arrived in Bermuda, with the events caught on camera and shared with fans online.
The second AC45T [the T being for Turbo, or Test, or Terribly fast] is a test platform the team is using as it develops its design for the new America’s Cup Class boat it will race in 2017.
The boat arrived broken down into its component parts in two shipping containers last week and has already been unpacked and had the hulls painted. Assembling the parts together is fairly straightforward, but there is still a lot of work to do in building up the systems on the boat that control the wing and foils.

Performance Team Manager, Ian “Fresh” Burns says, “To put two beds side by side, it’s going to be a really great day for us because we get really high quality data, high quality answers to questions.
“We’ve got one boat we’ve been using for quite a while and it’s been very effective to dive in Bermuda to collect data, but the challenges about measuring the wind and calculating exactly how will the boats go day upon day – it’s quite challenging with one boat.
“With two boats, you have the opportunity to line them up at one thing and see who goes fastest.”
