Taiyana Allen On Dedication To Achievement

May 18, 2016

Taiyana Allen is one of four students that will soon mark a successful completion to the Dual Enrolment Initiative, joining Kyrsten Burrows, Dejanee Hill-Edwards, and Sophia Hamilton in celebrating the historic occasion as they graduate with both a high school diploma and an associate’s degree in the same year.

The four students will form part of the Class of 2016 at their respective high schools in June, as well as Bermuda College on May 19, highlighting the success of the Dual Enrolment initiative at Bermuda College.

In the second spotlight of these exceptional students, we look at Taiyana Allen, who attends both CedarBridge Academy and Bermuda College, and recently received acceptance from Georgia State University into their Pre-Actuarial Science Program for the Fall 2016 semester.

Miss Allen told Bernews, “I first became involved with the Dual Enrollment Program at the end of me S2 year at CedarBridge Academy. I found out from my counselors and i was able to take the CPT’s. That’s when I got my results and was able to become a full time college student in the next semester which was the Fall of 2014.

“Saying it was a lot of work is an understatement. It was a very formidable process. I had to learn to balance attending two school while participating in sports and completing various community service duties. I must say during the first semester it was the greatest challenge, it became a lot easier going on since i was able to get used to and adjust to the amount of work.

“I had learned to prioritize me work to ensure everything got completed and it taught me to be more independent.

“I have been accepted and hope to attend Georgia State University in the Fall. I have been accepted into their Pre-Actuarial Science Program. I plan to become a fully qualified actuary and work within the Insurance/Re-Insurance industry here and even abroad.

“I am a Prefect, Vice President of Key Club, A member of the National honors Society, a part of the CedarBridge Academy Girls Rugby Team and on the U18 National Girls Rugby team. Also I currently have a 3.9 GPA at CedarBridge Academy and I am also graduating with Merit From the Bermuda College.”
